I’m deeply saddened by the passing of A.T. Wall, a dedicated public servant who helped to shape corrections policy across our country. His work proved that justice and humanity strengthen each other. Rest in peace, Director Wall. Your legacy of compassionate leadership endures.

Thinking of my dear friend Liz Cheney, and her entire family today. My hope is that they find comfort in the legacy of service, and deep love of country, that our former Vice President has left behind. May he rest in peace.

Excited to join a panel at the Nat’l Conference on Citizenship exploring the question: What if we strengthened civic health from the bottom up? We discussed how place-based philanthropy, led by community foundations, can action on civic renewal through year-round local engagement.

The 4th of July has special meaning here in RI, where we led the 13 colonies in renouncing the crown. We’ve always had a fiercely independent spirit, confidence in the ties that bind us as Americans, and great hope for our nation’s future. Happy Independence Day, RI!
