It's really distressing that no news outlets have challenged Trump's contention that a leak to a reporter clued in Iran about a missing airman. Wouldn't they have surmised that? After all, if a plane holds space for two fliers, why would you assume it only carried one?

I am truly glad that the NYTimes was not around when British colonists were agitating for independence. Obviously, demonstrations alone won't change things. But they are essential to engaging citizens to push for more change.

I admire reporting of @ginajessereina.bsky.social on immigration and other issues. I hope she and other journalists will write more about the Dorothea Project, a fast-growing group of Catholic women dedicated to advocating for immigrants and engaging more Catholics on this issue. dorotheaproject.com
I didn't have the tuition money to get a graduate degree in journalism at Columbia. My husband did attend. And now he's disillusioned with his alma mater.Justifiably so.

Listen to four NYT reporters get played by a masterful showman. They asked hard questions, but accepted soft answers! To call him "a bundle of contradictions" is a fine description for a partner, not a leader who accepts no curbs on his power. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/09/p...
Kate Woodsome was on the WaPo team covering Jan 6 insurrection 5 years ago. It won her a Pulitzer, but nearly broke her. Her recovery led to create regenerative journalism. spjdc.org/2025/12/trau...

This has been a traumatic year for journalists. Despite the challenges, many of you have done great work. If you are based in the DMV, we'd love to honor you. spjdc.org/2025/12/star...
Catholic parishes that use nativity scenes to help Christians remember the terrible crimes now being committed against immigrants should be applauded, not condemned. I regret that some bishops and conservative Catholics don't understand that the gospel trumps politics. cruxnow.com/church-in-th...
I am the granddaughter of Italian immigrants. Should all Italian Americans be blamed for organized crime? That makes as much sense as the president's latest rant against Somalis. But if I'm to be deported, please drop me off in Florence!
The NYT wrote a really lame story about Trump's aged body and brain, which uncovered nothing new but drew the president's predictable ire. Why don't journos just quote Trump's verbatim comments more extensively and just let the public decide? www.nytimes.com/2025/11/25/u...
Society of Professional Journalists is offering a $15 "piggy" discount on membership dues! Very clever rebuke to the abuse of reporters, and a good opportunity for journos to find solidarity. And if you're in the DMV, you can also join the D.C. chapter! www.spj.org/piggy/
What was the point of NYT's piece on Epstein and lost New York? A valedictory for the demise of male power? If it was, it ignored the fact that many named still have influence. Better stories have been written on Epstein. This one didn't deserve publication. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/16/s...
Larry Summers has been bad on every issue I can think of. I just didn't realize how bad until I read this.

This administration had the power and resources to help the poor. They don't mind playing roulette because they don't give a hoot about either the poor or the working class.
And this discussion of giving people money directly instead of insurance companies? That money will not guarantee you care when you need it, and will remove coverage of pre-existing conditions. orabcnews.go.com/Politics/schiff-republic...
Are Dems the Charlie Browns of Congress? Even the idea that some Senate Democrats would cave now without anything to show for it is maddening.
Democratic Senators should not cave in a stupid, incredibly naive belief that either their Senate Republican colleagues, the speaker of the House, or the current president will keep their word.
After all my perches for opinion-NBC THINK, CNN Opinion, and U.S. News & World Report either shut down or won't accept commentary on religion, I've taken to medium. Now, I figured out how to post what I wrote on the impasse on food stamps. Alas, it's still timely. medium.com/@cvwexler/it...
Good Lord, Muriel Bowser is the antithesis of Mamdani!
What is amazing is that despite imperfect reporting and analysis, the capitulation of big media outlets to the president's demands, growing news deserts, and an avalanche of misleading ads, American common sense prevailed last night.
No gilt without guilt. As millions of Americans are facing hunger (please let's not call it food insecurity), every corporation that gave millons to the president's ballroom should give at least as much to more than 40 million struggling Americans. apnews.com/article/whit...
This was a terrific, if heartbreaking, story.
On @NPR, this morning, a cynical report on the shutdown. Took a R House member guest to mention crucial health insurance subsidies at stake. Host asked about the failure to seat AZ's new D rep, but failed to explain the new rep's signature would force a vote on the Epstein files. Shameful!
So this is an interesting question. If you are in temporary housing, would you embark on a massive demolition and construction project? Does the current inhabitant of the WH intend to leave? I apologize if many others have already brought this up!
So the president starts literally demolishing the WH, and bans pictures and @NPR doesn't even include it in its headlines, and Democratic officials aren't lying on the ground to block the bulldozers? www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...
You know in the old days, we'd call stories the editors deemed less important to be placed "below the fold." NYT has spent a lot of energy this year "belowthefolding" crucial attacks on our democracy. Its placement of stories, and their often weak, often misleading, headlines, shame journalism.
That's the best suggestion I've heard! So much progressive philanthropy is swimming around, dazed and lost. If the good billionaires actually bought big media, we'd have a chance!
