In a universe of DEM/RUM how do we still not have endpoint observability for camera, mic, and share?

Dogs, pools, and boats- they have us, not the other way 'round. :)

Think? That look is more "we will" feels.

Years ago sitting in a PA-28, trimmed up on a smooth day that I could initiate slow pitch changes by leaning way forward and back. Did the weight * arm moment math, and felt the same way. I hear you- 2025 was not a great year for mindful self-care.

Google Discontinued Its Nest Brand - Here's Why - BGR Google Nest is essentially discontinued, and smart home users will begin hearing less and less about it. We'll explain what you need to know.

Answer: Because that’s what it does. I’ll miss my Fitbit soon, me thinks.

6 of 8 neighbors in my cul-de-sac dumped Spectrum for gFiber in the *first 4 days* it went live. There are dozens of contractor cars swarming the surrounding neighborhoods. It's an incumbent churn bloodbath unlike any infrastructure adoption I've ever seen.

Oh and do check out Portainer/Yacht or similar. Makes network mapping, storage pool, deployment, backup/builds etc close to dummy-proof. At least for this dummy.

All you need is disposable free time. Ugh.

Good to see you Justin.

Home.techDebt.reduce(). Seriously, containers on the pi (4 8GB and above), are where it's at. Unifi, Pi-hole, Node-RED, Prometheus, Grafana, and a couple of custom apps all run great on one pi. Add Portainer for management, and keep a spare pi for SD card-swap failover, done. It's loafing:

Running your Unifi Controller app under portainer.io on a Raspberry Pi makes upgrades a three-click affair. With linuxserver/unifi-network-application:latest as your image, click "Recreate" on the container menu, check the "Re-pull image" option on the confirm dialog, and that's it. Done in 30 secs.

We should absolutely give parents credit for working without a manual. My point was more about the fleeting nature of the childhood attachment window, and respect for adult children’s work of understanding and healing what’s missing.

“Unfortunately, emotional regulation is something you kinda get one big shot at in early-life, then you're often just sorta fucked.”

Oof. Attachment window truth.

AI enshittification may break the attention stranglehold of media, social and otherwise. They can’t help themselves destroy their own platforms following dreams of empty desks. That, or AI knows we need to go outside.

Google Fiber watch, day 3,752. Bootstrappy neighbor identifying missing box work to complete the conduit. After this they blow the fiber down the conduits.

Interesting there's ethical debate in a world of social media algorithms manipulating emotion dozens of times a day, and endless pay-for-emotion experiences from movies to roller coasters. At least this one has consent as step one.

Wonderful, Scott. I've been to a few of your talks and it's always a pleasure. This one vibrates on a similar personal wavelength Kelsey Hightower touched in an emotional talk years ago at @devopsdaysaustin.bsky.social. Tech supportive parents to the point of sacrifice is rare. Thanks for sharing.
