chart showing a reduction in TB deaths since 1980--from 1.8 million per year to just under 1.3 million per year.

When I was a kid, around 1,800,000 people died every year of tuberculosis. Now, around 1,250,000 do.

That's important progress. But at this current rate, it'll take a CENTURY to push TB deaths much below 500,000 per year. That's totally unacceptable for a curable, preventable disease.

Whooping cough cases reach highest level in a decade The U.S. has recorded over 32,000 whooping cough cases this year, compared with around 5,100 as of mid-December last year. Infants are most vulnerable to the bacterial infection.

Whooping cough (pertussis) cases 5x higher this year than last!

A combo of factors:
* normal cyclical swings in infexns

* pandemic changes in behavior (masking, distancing), now w/ rebound in cases - although we’re seeing decreases in RSV this year so I’m skeptical

* decreased vaxx rates

I just renewed my CCRN! Definitely the certification I’m proudest of. If you’re a critical care nurse thinking about getting certified DO IT! Even if it’s just for the bragging rights.

My grandma got pneumonia and couldn’t go to our thanksgiving dinner. I’m not saying she did it on purpose but it is awfully convenient. 😑 Side note pneumonia is apparently going around and it definitely gets you out of family parties.

It’s terrible but also hilarious if you heckle it the whole time. Merry gentlemen is worse but even more heckleable.

Happy thanksgiving everyone!

I am grateful for my beautiful little family.

I am grateful for all the people working today keeping everything running.

I am grateful for all the people who work tirelessly to make our lives better and for those who are kind.

What are you grateful for?

In honor of my ittiest bit being 3 months SVT free I’m learning about first line treatment options for SVT. (We’re on Propranolol.)

I’m so grateful for my nursing skills because even though I’m not a pediatric nurse I was able to catch the SVT quickly. ❤️‍🩹

It’s here! What a great listen. It gives me hope that even when companies introduce products that are damaging to public health we have proven mitigation strategies to help reduce harm. ♥️

He’s probably going to put the tariff on the fentanyl we actually use in the hospitals. That would be annoying.

I am right there with you! I started mine then stared at it for a solid minute before I finally realized my coffee was brewing clear and I hadn’t put any coffee grounds in it

This study is so informative. I learned a that there is still so much work to do to mitigate the harm that companies that sell dangerous and addictive products do.

Namely speeding up the studies that prove these products are harmful… While trying not to get railroaded by billion dollar companies 😬

The book was written in 1995 so technically it was probably one of the original sources of this trope… just sayin’
