Ah okay, thank you! I bought pre gessoed boards in the past but I might try gessoing myself next with some funkier features. It’s super cool to talk to someone else who is doing this btw!!

I bought pre-gessoed board that was super smooth - I think I either applied the bole/glue on too thick (I sanded it afterwards but it was still a little lumpy) and also maybe waited for too long before burnishing (I tried it once too early and damaged part)

Stunning!! What do you use to shape the 3D elements beneath the gold? Plaster?

Thank you! I actually used an agate burnisher to smooth out the gold, but as you can see the gold wasn’t applied too well lol so it’s not very smooth. I might go back to smaller boards next and experiment a bit more

Finally finished my moth man etching! When I started this one the design was mostly based on vibes, but the more I think about it, a trans (moth) person being pinned & displayed for the world to gawk at feels kind of relevant 🦋

hi! I’m a transmasc artist specialising mostly in lino & intaglio printmaking! (but also a million other techniques). so nice seeing all the other trans artists in this thread 💖

Last year I got really into learning iconography, with the sole purpose of taking the beautiful opulence of historical catholic art and turning it queer. I made this icon using the traditional water gilding method - I don’t have space to describe the process here, but here are some progress pics!

Honestly I have mixed feelings about trans day of visibility - as great as visibility is, it’s also been a massive target lately and sometimes I wish we could go back to being invisible lol. But I’m taking this day to appreciate trans creativity & community 💖

tried out tetrapak intaglio printing!

milk cartons can be used for intaglio printing instead of metal plates - after inking, the shiny metallic parts end up printing in grey, and parts where the metal layer has been scratched away absorb ink and print a dark black.
