Far-right Bardella’s letter to EU conservatives: Join my anti-green crusade Marine Le Pen’s protégé pitched the right-wing forces on forming an ‘alternative majority … against the left.’

French far-right leader Jordan Bardella urgently appealed to EU conservatives in a letter sent today and obtained by POLITICO: The time has come to kill Europe's Green Deal — together.

Between this and Meta removing fact-checking at Trump's behest, Foucault's analysis on discourse and power is really being demonstrated with far-right billionaires taking control of social media platforms. The robustness of the EU's DSA will soon be really tested.

So many great moments in the show, but this was pure goosebumps.

Had the absolute best night at the Ulster Hall listening and singing (fabulously out of tune) with Chris Kavanagh in tribute to the legend that is Luke Kelly. If you ever get a chance to go to one of his shows - do! Seeing the tricolour lit up in thon venue was chef's kiss 🇮🇪🤌🏼

If someone ever does this research, they would find that some areas are chronically underserved. You only need to try to get a bus in the upper Springfield Road and Whiterock area to see why private taxis put such a dent in people's pockets.

Giséle Pelicot is the REAL person of the year. She told women that the shame of rape was not ours to own. Her bravery dismantled so much patriarchal conditioning, that things will never be the same. The article by Jamie Klingler beautifully articulates this.

How Kash Patel, Trump's FBI pick, embraced the unhinged QAnon movement His extremism goes far beyond assailing a supposed Deep State.

"Patel is a purveyor of far-right conspiracism in other ways that overlap with QAnon. He claims a nefarious Deep State controls the US government and is arrayed against Trump and conservatives. He encourages paranoia and calls for revenge."

Current numbers. SF at 39 seats and the last two seats are between two FF candidates and Aontú in Cavan-Monaghon.

I think for some, maybe, but the exit poll highlighted that many FFG voters felt that their living standards were better off under them. So I'm not sure how much geopolitics plays as a factor in people's voting decisions from this cohort.

The ex-FG TD on RTÉ yesterday was going on about that Independent Ireland as a viable like-minded option. Also, I think a handful of individual independents were former FFG party members and they might be swayed to let bygones be bygones.

Fifth of Irish people think women make up or exaggerate claims of abuse or rape — survey The Eurobarometer poll survey of more than 25,800 respondents across the 27 EU member states found that 8% of Irish people think it is okay for a man to occasionally slap his wife or girlfriend

Some important insights from this European Commission-led research, but the subeditor might want to take another look (assume a recent court case influenced the angle taken), as ‘headline’ stat only gets brief mention in article… @irishexaminer.bsky.social

I think now will be a litmus test of sorts for Labour. Ivana looked eager about propping up a FFFG government but I reckon others in the party wouldn't be.

A polling station sign in Irish, with the text: Older Irish Voters Pull Up The Ladder At Their Peril

Many older Irish voters better hope the young either have short memories, or they emigrate - because in five years' time, they'll remember what you did to them ...

Lastly, the far-right thankfully did not make substantial gains but it would be remiss to pretend an emerging group did not materialise with Aontú, II & many independents. This will continue to grow unless we can offer a viable alternative future that supports the most underserved in society. 3/3

Left leaning parties did appear fragmented during the campaign and let's be honest, the mud-slinging the past year hasn't helped. We need to take lessons from France in building a common platform with shared positions & messaging. "Purist" thinking needs binned as it only harms the movement. 2/3

Reflecting on #GE24, a few things emerge. There's a sizable portion of the population that leans into the "I'm alright Jack" mentality and they vote that way. If they see that their kids are struggling in the housing crisis but continue to vote FFFG, then I don't know what could change that. 1/3

Hutch has a cushion. Sherlock can’t be ruled out just yet but the gap has grown through recent eliminations.

Hutch’s supporters - and other observers locally - believe he’s on the way to the Dáil.

Dublin Bay South (4)

The gurus have this one down as Geoghegan (FG), Bacik (Lab), O’Callaghan (FF), Andrews (SF) for the seats but Eoin Hayes (SD) put himself into contention and will pick up some transfers.

Hazel Chu (GP) likely out - unable to keep Eamon Ryan’s seat in the constituency.

McAuliffe (FF) and Carney Boud (SF) for the final seat with transfers from Noel Rock (FG) and Conor Reddy (PBP) to come.

1/ Two defining forces shaped this election: voter apathy and the triumph of self-interest. The turnout numbers and vote patterns tell a sobering story about our collective commitment to addressing inequality. Both speak volumes about the state of our democracy. #GE24 #Vóta24 #Speirgorm
