AJC Politics: Georgia U.S. Rep. David Scott has died
The Atlanta Democrat was 80 years old and had filed to run for a 13th term in Congress.

First article is from February. Second is today. The math is simple. Democrats need to be less polite and deferential toward seniority and instead focus on seizing, holding and wielding real, durable political power.
ONCE AGAIN, this demonstrates the party's lack of commitment in that regard.

We have lost the modern "arms race" of green technology - entirely due to the greed of the fossil fuel corporations & the corrupt politicians they fund.

Reading the FT front page story about a Chinese company introducing a battery with a 1500 km range & six minute recharging time & about how two Chinese companies own more than half of the global EV battery market & I am struck by the different realities the US and China occupy. We’ve lost the plot.

Many thanks to Betty Yee for endorsing Tom Steyer for governor. I wholeheartedly agree.

All is fair in love and primaries, but once a primary is over if you are an accelerationist telling voters to sit home to teach dems a lesson, you might as well be Pete Hegseth in your culpability for the outcomes.

There are a bunch of paid centrist grift accounts (Mueler, BrooklynDad, etc.) who suddenly got the bat signal for Becerra overnight, and immediately the MSNOW/KHive crowd jumped from Swalwell to Becerra.
It is one of the most transparently manufactured things I've ever seen in CA politics.

Yeah steyer has been actively organizing on progressive causes for over a decade now. Consistent, reliable and values-driven.

It has nothing to do with dnc. It's CDP, and CDP delegates did not reach 60% for any candidate.

Amazing how many of the big influencer spam accounts care so deeply about CA politics all of a sudden, and are so suddenly supportive of Becerra.
Nothing fishy going on there, I'm sure....

Absolutely not. This "online buzz" is manufactured and paid for. Definitely remarkable, but those of us who knoe better, know better.

He doesnt have to have the power to. It's a signal. Becerra was milquetoast in standing up to Trump as well.

Pritzker, you mean?
It's definitely odd how manufactured Becerra's rise has been since Swalwell dropped. Almost as if a loy of big money interests don't want Steyer to win.

Because Pritzer has done a bad job in IL? Steyer is clearly the most progressive choice among the frontrunners.

BREAKING: Federal Bill Would Put Big Oil Above the Law | Center for Climate Integrity
Republicans Introduce Legislation to Give Fossil Fuel Companies Immunity from Any Laws or Lawsuits Seeking to Hold them Accountable for their Role in the Climate Crisis
Republicans know they are about to lose the House and are trying to give Big Oil its holy grail: legal immunity from any futures actions that would hold the industry responsible for the climate crisis it knowingly caused and is making worse every day.

With Betty out of the race, my decision from the frontrunners is easy: I am happy to endorse Tom Steyer for governor. Tom's progressive credentials over the last 15 years are unimpeachable, his message is clear and unambiguously progressive. I'm confident Steyer will make a fantastic governor.

Deeply grateful to Betty Yee for her service and her candidacy. I was proud to endorse and support her. She also deserves great credit for putting the greater good ahead of individual interest to suspend her campaign and consolidate Democratic support.

yeah, this is what i'm talking about when i talk about "theory of mind." There is a whole large group of tech optimists and futurists, including philosophers, thinking along these lines. It's also the Star Trek premise!
They may be right, they may be wrong. But it's best to know what they're doing.

they are and they aren't. they aren't stupid enough to think that if they actually achieve the tech advances they are trying to build, that the government will allow said advances to stay private. Or that open source won't swallow them up.
And many of them are genuinely terrified about alignment.
