A side effect of so many influencers being LDS is that one of the past presidents of the church (and a US Secretary of Agriculture) wrote a foreword to "The Naked Capitalist" by Skousen and that book references the Protocols. It's not explicitly agreeing with them, but it doesn't exactly push back
D’oh! I read the dates as 17th & 18th centuries!
They were not mentioned as being in living memory? Nevertheless, it would be helpful if more people knew about the Stuarts
We are allowed, and should be encouraged, to celebrate our own wins, especially when there’s so much insanity around us.
Congratulations!
So expensive
It’s still good, and not nearly as frightening as SR could be! (When she was not being very kind)
Vassal. Susan Reynolds’s ” Fiefs and Vassals” is still a great place to start. 2/2
Definitely not rigid, definitely not a system. There were feudal relationships of people of different ranks, but within the same general social group, bound by oaths of mutual obligation, generally of lands (use of, rather than ownership) from the lord, and military service and counsel from the 1/ 2

Conferences are vital for academics because we need to know which of our peers are:
A) 15 minute conference papers
B) 20 minutes EXACTLY
C) 25+ minutes dear god kill me now
Reposting this again in case it helps some people. Do it if you can! It doesn’t hurt for more than a few seconds, and you might save some kid’s life.
Taney? (Sp?)
We have written to Science Minister Lord Patrick Vallance urging him to step him and help reverse the cuts to astronomy and space science proposed by the Science and Technology Facilities Council last month.

This is something we should think about across all writing intensive fields. Even if you're using the AI to turn notes into drafts, you are offloading the kinds of creative and epistemic decisions that drive the organization of your writing to a machine.
Cropped image from a book showing a colour illustration of a hippotamus in side profile, standing on some earth. The hippo is baring its teeth, looking almost as though it's smiling!
Good morning to everyone, but especially to all the hippopotamuses, for yesterday was their special day!
For World Hippo Day, here is an illustration of a (smiley?) hippopotamus from 'Animated Nature' (1828) by Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon [Reserve 590 BUF]

"The way in which the ÖAW have done this makes instantly obsolete the lists of volumes available elsewhere online. In a sense, they have taken back control of their own series, and drawn traffic back to their own site." #openaccess
Great new study on early medieval foodways, specifically a lack of fish in cooking pots! Glad it's not just our #ArchaeoFINS pots that lack 🐟! Implication with the human isotopes is that the Vikings adapted to local cuisine & left their fishy ways behind! doi.org/10.15184/aqy...
It’s unreasonably important to me that people know JewBelong isn’t some big org, it’s just Archie Gottesman, a hugely shitty racist rich white woman who used to make billboards for her daddy’s company and pivoted to vomiting her bullshit racist crybullying onto them in the name of “antisemitism”
This is criminal.
It is so good. Plus you learn Spanish history.
It is fantastic! Sadly, it left Netflix before I could finish it. If it doesn’t stream somewhere else, I will have to buy it
Have you seen the Spanish tv series with the same basic plot that came out in 2015
Did you know that there’s an excellent Spanish TV series with that plot? First episode came out in 2015. Creators were Pablo and Javier Olivares. It was on Netflix for a couple of years.
the whole damned thread. PS, to those who want to complain that it was all in Spanish... I had a pretty good idea what was going on, because Puerto Rico is part of the US, and I pay attention,
It absolutely does.
Wow
If anyone can gift me a copy of the front page article on Bezos’s torture and dismantling of WaPo, I would truly appreciate it.
Also, if you aren’t mad, go watch a movie based on a huge WaPo story
cover of The Washington Post on Wednesday Feb 4, 2026. Headline on bottom, right: Musk wanted to hook users; his chatbot got more sexual
My story on Elon Musk cutting safeguards at xAI is on the front page of today's @washingtonpost.com. I’m also among 100’s of reporters laid off. I absolutely loved my job my brilliant coworkers & the thrill of reporting @ the center of forces upending the world: AI & Silicon Valley’s political power
