Happy April Fools! 98% of patients DO think reading open notes is a good idea...but we can't vouch that the 2% are resetting their password. Read about our foundational research in @jmirpub.bsky.social from 2019: www.jmir.org/2019/5/e13876/ (open access)

OpenNotes research has shown that about 98% of patients say reading their notes is a good idea.

Which leaves the obvious question: what’s going on with the other approximately 2%?

After careful (and very scientific) observation, patients seem to be stuck in an eternal loop of “Forgot Password?”

Transparency is not risk free. But neither is restricted access - Healthy Debate Patients should not have to file formal requests to understand their own care, and they should not be excluded from conversations that shape their health and lives.

Canadians deserve open notes and access to their health data.

This article in @healthydebate.bsky.social argues that patients will seek out their health data and deserve accessibly written notes.

Take It From a Doctor: It’s OK if Your Medical Advice Comes From A.I. As a practicing physician, I know that my patients are using artificial intelligence to get medical advice. Sometimes the signs are subtle, like when they bring me lists of suggested tests and potential diagnoses that would put Dr. House to shame.

Are you being honest with your clinician about your AI use?

@adamrodmanmd.bsky.social offers advice in the @nytimes.com for people using LLM chatbots to understand their health.

He says honesty is the best policy... and your doctor is probably using AI as well.

Liz Salmi holding a guest badge with information redacted in San Francisco.

I spent the weekend taking OpenAI’s new #HealthGPT for a spin. 🤓

Naturally, I connected 3 health systems, uploaded a 4,800-page PDF of my medical history & ran my own mini-study with custom prompts.

Curious about the experiment, my “protocol” & what didn’t work?

What I got wrong 33 years ago as a new pediatrician talking to parents about vaccines Thirty-three years ago, as a new pediatrician, RWJ CEO Richard Besser had a conversation about vaccines with two parents-to-be. It still sticks with him.

“My first mistake was talking instead of listening. I should have slowed down. I should have given them the time and space to explain their thought process. I should have given myself the time to empathize with their perspective.”
