Local elected officials need a long-term plan to drive down rising costs in their communities. Voting down the #ClearHorizonsAct was a missed opportunity for New Mexico’s economic stability and clean energy future.
The Senate voted 19–23 to block the Clear Horizons Act leaving NM without a long-term plan to manage rising climate costs.
77% of New Mexicans support climate action.
Thank you to the legislators who voted YES and stood with our communities. 🌎

The Senate rejected the #ClearHorizonsAct 19–23.
But rising energy costs, water stress, and disaster spending didn’t disappear with that vote.
New Mexicans deserve long-term planning to protect family budgets and hold major polluters accountable.
We’ll keep working.

"The Earth is telling us she is hurting. It is evident in the wildfires, the floods, the earthquakes. In the ways that she cannot continue to provide for us in the ways she has before," ~Sen. Charley in her closing on the Clear Horizons Act.

When rivers run low and herds are de-stocked, families feel it first.
Protecting water means protecting agriculture, local economies, and household budgets.
The #ClearHorizonsAct plans ahead. This is what we expect from our leaders. We must face reality and act bravely.

“Let’s not wait 2 years. Let’s not wait 5 years. We have the opportunity act now.” ~ Sen. Pope closing his comments in support of the Clear Horizons Act on the Senate floor
Will the Senate take the opportunity? Will we choose stability and certainty for New Mexicans?

Do you know what “snow drought” means? We are at 50% of the snow fall we should have.
Winter is when snow is suppose to build up and slowly melt and replenish our groundwater. 90% of New Mexicans rely on groundwater for drinking water.
This is climate change.

Hotter summers & longer droughts are already stressing NM’s water - acequias, watersheds & drinking supplies. Our economy runs on our water.
Protecting our water means planning ahead.

Wildfires. Drought. Flooding. Extreme Heat.
We can either keep paying for disaster recovery - or plan ahead to reduce the pollution making these crises worse.
That’s what the #ClearHorizonsAct does.
#NMLeg #ActOnClimate
New Mexicans are already paying for climate disasters - through higher insurance rates, emergency response costs, and rising energy bills.
The #ClearHorizonsAct is about planning ahead so families don’t keep footing the bill.
