Chromium Wayland xdg-session-management demo (wip)
Chromium Wayland xdg-session-management demo (wip) YouTube video by Nick Yamane

Chromium now has initial, experimental support for the xdg-session-management wayland protocol, shipping in canary channel in the coming days. I've implemented and tested it with Mutter 48, the only compositor supporting it atm (also experimental since version 47.

For the ones curious about the technical bits and challenges for a first-time contributor for Gnome/Mutter, I'll be covering it in a blog post series in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

In practice, it means that full Chrome's tab drag UX will be finally supported, when running with its native wayland backend, besides other applications that support similar features, eg: IDEs, etc.

Happy to share that my implementation of xdg-toplevel-drag-v1 protocol for Mutter has landed and should start shipping in Gnome 48 🎉 That's part of an ongoing effort @ @igalia.com to officially ship Chromium Ozone/Wayland backend.

6 years at @igalia.com 🎂🍾 and couldn't be happier! 🥰

btw, if you're in the software industry and like free and open source sw, flat and democratic organization, work-life balance, I really recommend to learn a bit about Igalia. Ok, I may sound biased, but 6 years should be enough to justify it 🙃
