doubtful but I can’t say I know too much about Finnish politics

Guyatt is in my opinion the distinction there, Kaltiala’s choices here are quite revealing IMO in what they could have found out and decided not to
small critique: I don’t think they defined it as protected speech so much as just speech and thus needing to survive strict scrutiny. probably won’t matter, they’ll say it fails strict scrutiny if it gets to it, but it is distinct
We may need to consider that bluesky culture, particularly trans bluesky culture, is in need of a course correction. Wanting him to word every post so perfectly that even an adversary couldn't find another meaning in a statement is not a standard you can reasonably hold anybody to.
Fern Brady wearing a camera helmet on Taskmaster and opening the task, which has a red wax seal, and reading the contents. She has a purple set of coveralls on as well, which is just fun.
"Open the Strait of Hormuz. You may not receive the help of any other sovereign nation. Fastest wins."
For the same $6 trillion cost, you could crush child poverty with a child allowance and free childcare, fix unemployment insurance, do paid family, sick & medical leave, massively boost ACA subsidies, and eliminate child uninsurance with Medicare for Kids.
The media desperately wanted to give the right a cultural moment and the problem is that they have no culture.
Just a fundamentally evil, malevolent person. Rotten to the very core.
I agree with this + I sorta sneered at the “resistance within the Trump administration” stuff but in retrospect there were principled people within his first administration preventing enormous harm.
This was murder. Pretti did not initiate the confrontation. He didn’t strike them. He didn’t brandish his gun. They tackled him, beat him, disarmed him, and shot him.
It’s no comfort, but the official DHS line being “he can be killed by masked agents of the state because he had a legal gun” is such an interesting new frontier in how Trump has made the conservative movement very publicly and embarrassingly abandon every principal it once claimed.
1. Shoot people like dogs
2. Unrest
3. Martial law
The plan is that transparent. Don’t let them
i’m not particularly attached to “abolish ICE” as a slogan but as a policy it’s mandatory
Gary Larson: In my cartoon I invented Cow Tools as a cautionary tale
Cows: At long last, we have created the Cow Tools from classic newspaper comic Cow Tools
You have to understand, the agent involved is stupid. We begged him to stop standing in front of cars but he can’t figure it out. He’s stupid and he has anxiety from the time before when he was stupid, so we just have to let him pop off. We wish he weren’t, but he is. And we have to respect that
indeed she’s so cool
lol
eliza and i watched this last night and were both very impressed. I didn’t think a knives out movie could emotionally move me but it did twice!
could someone please do an edit of Max levitating off the ground but instead of listening to Kate Bush she’s listening to us talk about the guy fucking the horse
This is a long read, but SO worthwhile (and it gets better and better).
Lots of great insight.
TLDR: the deliberately adversarial relationship between trans people and healthcare providers is enormously harmful, for everyone.
Thank you!! 💖
Really, really good interview on the issues with restricting transition care, creating adversarial relationships between patients and providers and advocating for trans-hostile standards that harm trans people and detransitioners alike.
thanks to @androgynyfiend.bsky.social and @dolphindiaries.bsky.social for their time and great answers!!
it's so odd to me to see people go to bat for a political newcomer like platner. it's not like he's spent years earning our trust. we have very, very few data points about this dude, and one of those data points is "he has a nazi tattoo."
that’s also counter to the principle of individualized care I conclude with as an overall recommendation
My point is more that the wait time is the problem. I don’t think it’s necessarily true that more assessment gets you better results for all patients — I argue otherwise later on! However you should be making that call for medical reasons, not administrative ones
at no point am I saying that whatever the UK was doing was good — it very clearly was not
