young caracara was eating bugs off of another cow, then jumped on top of this one and stared into its soul #birds

it's already hard to believe how beautiful these birds are, and then they open their wings and it becomes truly incredible

A lesson's motmot, a beautiful, medium sized bird with iridescent green-blue-yellow feathers, black facemask and red eye, sits proudly with its prey: a coiling millipede.

A brown jay protrait - the yellow bill and eye ring mark it as a juvenile.

this brown jay (piapia, urraca) is a juvenile -yellow bill and eyering give it away- but at a distance of about a meter its 'pia pia' calls were loud enough to make my ears ring #birds

(my bad, these are not house sparrows)

4 months ago 2 0 1 0

I traveled to Canada and was surprised to see the large groups these house sparrows move in! In Costa Rica I see them mostly in pairs - maybe here they have more direct competition from the zonitrichia sparrows that already fill the "urban sparrow" niche?

I got so stoned at a Mets game once I compared the Jumbotron to the top screen of a Nintendo DS bc it had “a bunch of useful contextual information” and the field to the bottom screen bc “it’s where the game is actually played”

I'm from Costa Rica and it's utterly disgraceful that we fumbled the easiest (on paper) WC qualifier. Happy for these guys and Haiti
