as for me, i’ll just continue liking them how i do… i tag my drawings/aus of them as “shuake” cause I got attached to how the ship name sounds 😅 but i guess i’ll try finding the appropriate tag if needed and if the specific dynamic is clearly noticeable to me

i also just don’t think i see shuake in terms of fixed dynamics whenever i create aus or scenarios for them… i just have headcanons and have those hcs play out.

i understand this doesn’t work for people who prefer one over the other though, which is completely fine!

shuake or akeshu — i honestly like both. both dynamics have their own charms and i find them really fun to explore. i guess, in my head, since they’re rivals (meaning, they see each other as equals and want to challenge each other), it makes sense for me to see them as switches.

i’m suddenly remembering the sequence of events after that scene and IT HURTS YES HE WANTS TO GROW OLD WITH YOU SOO MUCHH GORO WIFJJEF

(i might draw or talk about this more BUT hopefully this impromptu drabble is enjoyable at least!!! i just love thinking of shuake in random situations or aus lmao)

(their first formal meeting is at the protest, then they become friends, they’re both hungry for good education and better opportunities, they both have family problems that would be solved by moving to tokyo, and so they just say fuck it and run away again hand-in-hand.)

(anyway idk where this is going but there’s just something about 1960s shuake who run away from their province to get education from mainland tokyo after becoming friends and they’re penniless young adults so they gotta live together too >__<)

“Isn’t your expertise on books as well?” Goro asks, “Why should law students be the only ones who can’t run from the police?”

“Well, cause you guys /are/ law itself,” Akira says, letting go of Goro’s gloved hand. “And I’m behind on my reading. I should clearly learn from you.”

“Surprised you could keep up,” Kurusu says with a grin, “I thought people from the law department always had their noses buried in thick books. Akira Kurusu, from literature.”

“Thanks for the save earlier… Goro Akechi.” Goro returns the handshake.

they run and run until they lose track of the crowd and the campus. then, once sat on the ground and panting against a row of vending machines, kurusu loosens his grip around goro’s wrist, only to catch goro’s hand in a handshake.

and the glimmer of something in kurusu’s eyes when they pass by a student who sprays hard water at the crowd of uniformed men with an industrial garden hose (and who also unintentionally causes water to shower in small droplets that cling to kurusu’s hair and eyelashes).

goro lets his legs follow kurusu. he tells himself it’s cause kurusu has a steel grip and that he owes kurusu thanks for helping him dodge the baton. he ignores kurusu’s carefree laugh when they bump hard against a flimsy flower stand that explodes into petals in the air

said baton hits the organization's president squarely on the forehead and all hell breaks loose.

akira doesn’t let go of akechi and instead drags akechi with him past the chairs and the surge of students going both directions (either to join the dogpile of bodies behind or run with them).

besides knowing each other by face, last name, and academic standing (they’re both famous in their respective departments), they’re practically strangers. but that doesn’t stop akira from yanking akechi—who was lecturing with a megaphone—away from the trajectory of a flying baton.
