A 1946 advertisement for Marmite features a man in military uniform against a background of men toiling in a camp. The ad highlights the story of Australians raiding Japanese-held supplies of Marmite to aid prisoners of war, emphasizing its vitamin potency as a nourishing food for all, especially young children, the sick, and the elderly. It encourages consumers to ask their grocers for Marmite.

Australian Pow's defy Japanese guards... ...to get life giving Marmite

Here is one of the most dramatic stories of courage and comradeship to come out of World War 11-and one of the greatest tributes that could possibly be paid to the vitamin-potency of MARMITE Vegetable Extract! Proving conclusively the value of this famous product as a nourishing and appetite-stimulating food it also shows why MARMITE should be served in every home-particularly where there are young and growing children, sick persons or elderly folk. Providing in abundance those elements that are so vital to health, MARMITE is as delicious as it is good-and being so highly concentrated it is most economical in use. Ask your grocer to save you a pot of MARMITE today! Increased supplies coming soon.
So desperate was the need of Australia's POW's for vitamin foods that the most appalling risks were run to secure supplies. In one recorded instance Japanese-held supplies of MARMITE, originally assembled by the British Government for jungle-fighting troops, were raided by daring young Australians to bring life-giving MARMITE to their sick and suffering mates!

I don't think Episcopalians should follow unsafe people. I think when they do it they're reinforcing doomerism.

So much false equivalence in media on gerrymandering in Texas vs California & Virginia. California and Virginia maps approved by the voters. That's a huge difference not enough people pointing out

The Virginia Redistricting Amendment has passed.
This changes Virginia's congressional maps from a 6-5 Democratic split to a 10-
1 Democratic split, representing a four-seat gain for Democrats.

the cool thing about being a progressive normielib is that I can just say “this is awesome” instead of doing a bunch of throat clearing about loathing Spanberger before I praise her for obliterating 4 Republican seats

Cf. the Bezos Post, "Republicans gerrymandering in Texas is fine, actually" b/w "Democrats gerrymandering in Virginia is a threat to democracy"

Remember when Republicans drew Virginia's Congressional map so Black people were packed into one district and said we should be grateful they gave our community this district. NOW they can have one district and see how much they love it.

How awful are these people? I once took my kids to our local playground in Chicago and counted five different languages spoken by the handful of families present. My kids made friends with those kids! They learned that there are other languages! And that some people wear a hijab!

Previously: “It was really important to document it [so that] no one can say this didn’t happen … and really just for people to understand the human toll that these state laws and now the federal government is having on these families, that they have become political refugees in their own country.”

U.S. operations against Iran expand to Indian Ocean with tanker capture The capture of the tanker ship Tifani follows a Trump administration directive to interdict sanctioned vessels believed to be involved in smuggling Iranian oil.

U.S. naval operations against Iran have expanded beyond the Middle East, as U.S. forces seized a tanker ship suspected of smuggling oil in the Indian Ocean and escorted at least one other vessel off India’s western coast, officials said.

What a deep, tremendous shame. I don’t think opponents of Trump need to self flagellate over his monstrous actions but we do need to acknowledge what was done in the name of our country, and that it will make it less and less likely anyone ever lifts a finger to help us again.
