And let's be very honest, the reason tech world is salivating about agentic workflows is pretty much just for one reason only - Layoffs. There's nothing else to it cept how can we lay off as many workers as possible. That is the goal behind all of the agentic AI madness we see around us.

The worst thing about AI killing jobs is that we won't even get good software in return. We're leaving the hand crafted cars era of software and are now heading into the dark factories era where you get a never ending line-up of putty colored subaru outbacks and nobody can afford it.

As I see it the fulcrum of this debate is: Can AI agents that automate white collar workflows ever be profitable?

If no: 2008 repeats but maybe even worse (very bad)
If yes: mass job displacement (10x)

Also I see a lot of folks here who just have no understanding of just how much vibe-coding is now integrated into our workflows in tech. Yes there is an outside chance that agents can automate things end-to-end, eliminating a lot of entry level jobs.

I am in tech, I have seen extraordinarily short sighted business decisions be made for a tiny % bump in profit over ONE QUARTER. Will tech execs conduct mass layoffs for fractional % profits in service of participating in the hype cycle? Why wouldn't they?

I see these threads and just don't understand how both can't be true. 1. AI financials are dangerously over-exposed and they need this to work AND 2. precisely because of #1, tech executives force Gen AI on workers to justify firing them, even if in the long run systems start failing.
