there are already so many FREE references that we have access to, if you're gonna police others on how those references should be used then what's the point??
if you're scared about the free part it always doesn't hurt to ask.
I mean, did you spawn out of the womb already knowing how to write???
like that kinda stuff is literally how we learn and then branch out, that's how diff styles came to be (and not just for visual art).
but if you're tracing a reference (e.g. poses, angles) you're essentially learning & memorising its base/skeleton & shapes that eventually will be ingrained in your muscle memory & soon you'll be able to do it on your own & even adapt it to your own style.
