I think the answer is adapting business models to the new economy where fewer people have far more. Mobile games have already pioneered this: "free, but full of ads" for most, and then a small percent of "whale" users with more money than they could ever spend drop thousands on micro-transactions.

I get mad watching battle bots because it's boring as fuck.

Better technology is never going to get us there, only a labor rights movement can do that.

That's not really a tech problem though. Tech is ever improving and increasing productivity, but we're still working 8 hour days. Those in charge expect us to produce more in the same amount of time rather than the same in less time. We could be living in at least something close to that world now.

I don't hate them per se, but it all depends. An achievement for finishing a level exists for data collection, it's not done in service of enhancing the experience. But achievements to prove you found a rare secret I think is fun. And it does seem like there are more like the former than the latter.

Force feeding someone a laxative while saying "Stop shitting yourself! Stop shitting yourself!"

Of course, I'm not Catholic anymore, which is largely due to attending 12 years of Catholic school, so it just goes to show how powerful of a test of the faithful it really is.

You shouldn't get to take a shortcut, you should have to go through the gauntlet like the rest of us, and that's the most Catholic thing of all.

You shouldn't be allowed to convert to Catholicism as an adult without going through 12 years of Catholic school. I don't mean some sort of special adult classes, I mean no matter what age you are, you have to start over in 1st grade and go through 12th.

Reminds me of the early 2000s when any company could slap "dot com" at the end of their company name to get millions in investor cash. I forget how that ended though...

"AI is here to stay so you better just get used to it"

Literally cannot thing of one other single thing they say this about. Social Security has been around since 1935 and is massively popular. Medicare since 1965, similarly popular. They have never stopped trying to get rid of both of them.

Unless the point is about not having to actually speak to another human? Which, I don't see an increasingly antisocial society as some sort of futuristic utopia.

This is so weird to me. There has never been a point in my life where people weren't able to get a flight, a taxi, or a pizza delivery. I guess before cell phones you would have had to wait until you got home to order the pizza, so the big change is not waiting an extra 30 minutes for dinner?

The response to Zohran winning was "New York has a progressive electorate, his politics can't win anywhere else", but when Eric Adams won the same position in the previous election, it was "This proves voters demand middle of the road politics. He is a model for how Democrats can win nationally!"

And when a left candidate wins, it's always dismissed as an anomaly for this or that reason. "They can only win in that specific locality", "They would have lost but the vote was split", etc.

The range of its capabilities goes from error prone when it's not working as intended, to mundane and tedious when it is. That's the best it will ever be capable of doing.

Yes, AI will improve in a technical sense, as in it will make fewer errors, but it can never be good. It can only generate average outputs. This is by design because it's a prediction engine. It can only predict that which is most heavily represented in the training data, i.e. the average.

Not only are you settling for mediocrity rather striving for excellence, you're also establishing a new standard of what is considered acceptable, shifting the entire window of cultural output in a negative direction.

Even the people who push genAI admit its use case is getting results that are "good enough", but a world full of things that are just "good enough" sounds like shit actually.

It's so funny when they say raising the minimum wage will destroy all the jobs, because, if true, it's an admission that capitalism doesn't work.

"You fool, we can't pay people enough to live!!! If we don't exploit workers, the system will fail!"

Despite Apocalyptic Warnings, California Fast Food Wage Hike Didn’t Kill Jobs UC Berkeley study finds employment held steady — and only pennies were added to menu prices.

A new report from the University of California shows that the state's decision to raise the minimum wage for fast food workers to $20/hr didn’t hurt jobs, or raise prices much.

Data from over 2,000 restaurants shows that the $20/hr minimum wage didn’t reduce employment.

Why do centrists get infinite do-overs but if a leftist loses once it's conclusive proof that the entire movement has been rejected and thus non-viable forever? When centrists lose they just run again until they win, which is then proof that they're massively popular, no matter how slim the margin.

Had the exact same thing happen to me and reseating the card was indeed the solution.

If they could, they would pay every person minimum wage, and yet they don't. Why can't they? Because nobody would work for them.

Of course they have a choice. They need us more than we need them, and there are more of us than there are them. They will bend if we make demands.

"I have bad handwriting", no you don't, handwriting isn't an immutable trait, you're just not willing to put in 5 extra seconds of effort to make sure other people are able to read what you wrote.

I have lots of great ideas for how to drive a Lamborghini but I can't afford one. I am of course entitled to one anyway. That's where stealing one comes in.
