I should write a poem about the local literary scene. It could be one of those poems showing how it could have been different.
In this poem, no one enthusiastically mistakes me for their Arab friend.
In this poem, the publisher doesn’t tell us having no scruples is necessary.
In this poem…

I am glad that you did not choose to make your home down here, even with the nice weather. It is a very sad sort of place.
That was the first and only time an owner has fully shadowed me everywhere I went in the store. It was not pleasant. I did not return.
Have I said that I don’t do local in person events? 😂
Speaking of Zionism, and this is kind of funny… I went into my local independent store to check it out back when I was trying to make a go of performing Palestinian folktales. The owner walked me over to their events area where on prominent display was this huge book about Zionism. lol
I’m thinking about my experiences with local bookstores. I started boycotting Chapters Indigo some twenty years ago because the small Canadian literary press I was interning at told us about their practices, how they refer to books as “wallpaper.”
Now of course there’s also the Zionism.
My self published collection earned 33$USD this year. ✊🏼
I haven’t read it but the manga is supposed to be pretty sweet iirc. It has been a while since she recommended them to me.
Keeping in mind this is not a Big Book of Palestinian Spookiness, or a how to guide. More like meditations with some resources thrown in for the curious.
In this book of Palestinian folk religion and magic, what topics would you find interesting? Do you have any burning questions?
True. I’m excited to hear more about your plans!
To ease your nerves, have you heard of Skull Face Bookseller Honda San? It’s my friend’s favourite light hearted slice of life series about a skeleton who works at a bookstore (based on the author’s life).
Re people expecting to see Klune etc a good way to handle that would be to say you don’t have it but can order it in for them!
My friend is a children’s bookseller. I haven’t asked her about this but from casual conversations about her job… I think what might be helpful is for you to ask “can I hand sell this book?” If you can’t see yourself enthusiastically picking it up for a customer, it might not be a good fit for you.

Apparently this is precedented

To be fair to myself, I was also struggling to keep the lights on and food on my table. I was not in a position to help myself, let alone anyone else.
I’ve been wanting to do a workshop with @workshops4gaza.bsky.social but could not get my brain to focus on planning. I hope I can get a proposal together this time. Until then, support them and their work.
You can also at any time still purchase a book from this site and all proceeds will be donated to The Sameer Project!! open-books-a-poem-emporium.myshopify.com/collections/...

It's been 2 yrs since W4G started. People have come and gone, the u.s.-zionist genocide on Gaza has become a full-blown world war, and somehow a few of us are still here. *OUR DOORS ARE OPEN FOR WORKSHOP PROPOSALS* -->airtable.com/app2F3TGsD60yzjH5/paglwS...
Hey do a workshop with these folks if you have some skills to impart. Especially writers. I did one with them & it was awesome & funded Palestine!
Less than 50$ USD. Could this be the day?
So, I guess I’m writing a book philosophical meditations on the esoteric from my perspective, as someone whose core framework is rooted in Palestinian folk religious practice.
Less than 50$ USD. Could this be the day?
I’m probably over thinking this. lol
I make adjustments to what I know as I learn new things. I don’t drop paradigms when another is more useful to me. That’s not shade. I’m just trying to understand where I’m at with chaos magic.
I do paradigm shift but not on the regular and I don’t really try them on so much as consider what best reflects what I know about reality.
Having just seen a vid on chaos magic, I wonder if I’m more in the eclectic camp. I believe that there’s no right opinion or way to do things. But it feels more like seeking knowledge and truth to me, even if it’s a personal truth. Does that make sense, or am I misunderstanding chaos?
I know there are more but… you can’t just ask people to contribute to something like this. Many people don’t know that they do spooky stuff, or they are afraid of exposure if they do.
A part of me wants to turn this Palestinian folk religion and magic book into an anthology but I have too many anthologies in the works. Besides, I think I only know of two other Palestinians who do spooky stuff.
