Finally, climatic reconstruction methods (Coexistence Approach and CREST) indicate a warm-temperate climate with hot summers.
This support the idea that faunal endemism in Balkanatolia was rather driven by insular isolation, rather than climatic or environmental barriers.

This is one of the first inland-deposited palynofloras from the Eocene of Türkiye. It is dominated by swamp-freshwater taxa, including Cupressaceae, Ludwigia (Onagraceae), and ferns.

A new preprint from our research group is online!
In this paper, Paul Botté, PhD student in the project at @climatecerege.bsky.social, studied the evolution of continental environmental through the late Eocene and earliest Oligocene in central Anatolia.

Today, we organized a vulgarisation workshop about paleopalynology at the Musée Espace Gaïa in Montereau-Fault-Yonne for the "Fête de la Science"! Rafael Cabral, Adele Giobbini and myself (with the help of @mathildelp.bsky.social) presented 3D printed pollen grains to the public.

Hi, actually the site is underwater out of the field campain (July). So, there are no visits during the rest of the year. But you can see some of the specimens in the Museum in Angoulême! The leader of the field from our lab (CR2P) is Ronan Allain.

Delighted to share our paper on data equity in #palaeobiology as part of Paleobiology's 50th anniversary issue 🥳

We look at how palaeo data is collected, stored, curated & shared, and how equity in these processes is crucial for our field's future (1/n) 🧪⚒️

We show that endemism started at least by 47 Ma, and possibly much earlier, in the Paleocene. Older sites are so far lacking, but we expect to publish some in the next few years (stay tuned!). With @benjaminraynaud.bsky.social @mustafayk.bsky.social and many others at @climatecerege.bsky.social

Updating the timeline of faunal endemism in Balkanatolia, the biogeographic province connecting Europe, Asia and Africa Balkanatolia is a Paleogene insular biogeographic province, spanning from southeastern Europe to the Caucasus. It is located at the crossroads of Asia…

🚨New paper alert!🚨 A long and precise stratigraphic and geochronological study led by Leny Montheil to better refine the time of formation of Balkanatolia, this strange biogeographic province that we have been studying for a decade now. (1/n)

Welcome to @benjaminraynaud.bsky.social on the Blue place! Benjamin in a PhD student in Paleobotany, working with us on understanding the changes in ecosystems which could have favored the dispersal of primates and ungulates out of Asia during the Eocene.
