Literally would not touch it with a ten foot pole, wretched idea, glad it failed so they'll never make another

but ask me how i really feel, amirite

Has "making my hobby my literal job that I should be doing right now, but am instead complaning on the internet instead of writing about Transformers" factored into this mindset?

WHO CAN SAY

All the things I like are *everywhere*, saturating every facet of everyday life for two decades. I won! I won at culture, everyone likes the things I like! But when that's the baseline, what would *excite* me? It SHOULD have been "doing Dr. Doom in a movie properly," but they've beefed that.

Earlier this year a friend of mine was absolutey *fizzing* with excitement for that new Silent Hill movie, because there hasn't been a movie in 15 years. And sure, the film was abysmal dogshit, but it left me thinking... what would it take to get me THAT excited for any properties I like anymore?

It just gave me a feeling I feel less and less these days, as the things that used to bring me joy become progressively more diluted and stripmined for Content in the streaming/internet age, that, in fact, I do actually still like these things and good can still eb done with them.

Finally got Marvel's "Cosmic Invasion" yesterday and BOY. I just had a big smile on my head the whole time. So nice -- SO NICE -- to experience something that feels like it was made with genuine love for the source material and the history of the properties instead of another MCU thing.

Listen, I'll freely admit, I don't know or care enough about sports to understand the puns/references being made in these names without using Google, but now that I HAVE looked them up, they're clearly having fun here. "SKOLGRIN" for goodness sakes, yes, well done, more of that energy please.

Ah! David's credit is here for three issues of Hulk that are included; Slott did the aforementioned Doc Samson mini.

No, this was from a few years before Pelletier was penciller on She-Hulk's book. They just both have some common DNA in their art styles, which started out in a similar place (and that place is: drawing like Alan Davis).

Gerber, at least, was always trying to say something about something, even if that something was "I'm fucking sick of all these Batman movie ads and I'm going to make it your problem."

Like comparatively, by the time I got to the end of the second Byrne run, I was probably "more ready" for that to end than I was when Gerber dipped out, cos Byrne had sort of given up and was just drawing horny splash pages of nothing.

Well you did have the Hitch art carrying a lot of that period. And even when he's not trying, Steve Gerber is always worth the price of admission for me.

Oh. This thread appears to have drifted to become just earnestly talking about artists and styles.

Ummm

I like She-Hulk to lean a bit on the cartoonish side, style-wise. The last issue in the book is a one-shot by her old regular penciller Bryan Hitch, but done during his slide towards Authority/Ultimates-era photo-realism,and while it's obviously GOOD, I don't think it favours her as much.

The "Doc Samson" mini-series the above page came from Isn't Great, but of the five (!) artists on its four (!!) issues, Roberto Flores had a cartoonish style that I think, refined of its 90s excess, would've made him a good fit for She-Hulk. Sadly she's barely in it so he doesn't get to draw her.

i would in fact argue that most of the annoying behaviors people still associate with tumblr have moved to other sites like twitter or even tiktok, where teens and early 20-somethings who want to use social justice language to fight about fandom bullshit actually congregate today

When they say "mog" they are using cringe-inducing "Looksmaxxing" terminology to indicate that one person is more attractive than another.

When I use "Mog" I am talking about Meg’s loyal feline companion.

We are not the same. 🤷‍♂️
