How are the folks who voted his party ok with this?

If you have any shovels in your special collections/archives (like, dedicatory shovels, ceremonial shovels, things like that), could you snap a picture for me? We are doing a lunch tomorrow to celebrate the archives and I want to have a slideshow of archives shovel friends. Thanks!
"We are shifting to a model where [libraries] are basically seeing their collections disappear. Like Snapchat stories.” — Caroline De Cock

The way tech is trying to shove AI down our throats is making me even more disinterested and disdainful.
This might be a case worth watching.

It is a research afternoon for me working on a project with some of my colleagues related to AI. I've read "ChatGPT" and "unbiased" used together so many times that I want to barf. "The program is unbiased, but the training data might contain bias." but what is the program without the training data?
"Good morning Alison! I enjoy reading your column and the comments of your readers. Your advice is almost always spot on, although your political commentary is distracting and ill-advised. I wonder if you are concerned that you have become too much of a “niche” , a product suitable only to those who voted for Kamala Harris - quite possibly the worst presidential candidate of my lifetime: inauthentic, inarticulate, incompetent, an unqualified DEI disaster. To paraphrase Michael Jordan, Republicans have jobs and may need professional advice at times too ! I would have responded in your comment section, but you must know that you actively discourage conservative voices, constantly reminding your readers to report all the “trolls”. Facebook and Twitter , among others, have abandoned left-wing censorship policies of free speech. Perhaps you should consider that too. Best wishes!"
literally only men send me stuff like this
I hate to think who he will appoint in her place - best case scenario is someone who doesn't understand anything about how libraries work. Anyone who works at LoC: weaponized incompetence is your friend and an effective way to resist from the inside.
A timely quote from Dr. Carla Hayden: “Libraries are a cornerstone of democracy—where information is free and equally available to everyone. People tend to take that for granted, and they don’t realize what is at stake when that is put at risk.”
So, the fascist cheeto fired the Librarian of Congress. only took him 6 months to figure out there was a library. All of our contingency action plans need to be activated today and through the weekend to start capturing moment in time information from loc.gov including LCC and LCSH. *#libsky
It feels like we just skipped over the moral and ethical discussion and evaluation of AI entirely. It is incredibly frustrating as a library person.
If you need any sources on AI being shitty, I've been collecting and compiling them: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

when he sends citizens to foreign concentration camps, it’s no longer a slide to authoritarianism—it’s full blown fascism! 😔 this is not an administration, it’s a criminal regime in a hostile takeover of 🇺🇸 democracy. #FightFascism #TraitorTrump #DefendLiberty 🔔

This article is well worth a read as both a personal story and an explanation of why trans rights matter.
And once their teeth start rotting away and falling out of their mouths, they'll blame Obama.

I'd say we're close to doing that here locally, but as we move to doing this work more OCUL-y, that's where some larger governance questions come in, which my working group is looking at making recommendation on.
