TWC uses raw Euro output which I don't understand. At Fox we keep it to the NBM, which has FRAM applied to all ice forecasts. Much more reasonable.

The insane thing is they reach out to us for information then either butcher it anyway or just ignore us when it's answers they don't like

According to NHC in its final report on Hurricane Helene, of the 176 direct fatalities caused by the storm, 95 of them were due to freshwater flooding

With the latest report of 105 killed in Texas, this event is now a deadlier flood event than Helene

An absolute tragedy

Meanwhile on Twitter there are tons of people saying the media is downplaying the story and lying to the people that it's peaceful when it's not. The fact that people are coming away with polar opposite reactions to the same coverage is so wild to me.

The southeast RCC had a good climate perspectives tool.

The southern RCC has built coastal normals for the ocean industry.

I could go on and on

The Northeast RCC operates ACIS/xmACIS, widely used by the weather and climate enterprise.

The western RCC just updated all of their maps and products, a good chunk of it in the cloud.

Midwest and High Plains RCC have a lot of great ag products

A classic Southeast U.S. winter tornado outbreak is expected today

Numerous severe storms will likely produce multiple tornadoes, some of which will be strong and long-tracked.

EF-3 or even violent EF-4 tornadoes are on the table

A dangerous day ahead

Footprint of November 1938 snowstorm

Wow! 20" of snow in New Jersey!

This may have broken the New Jersey state record for most snow from a single November storm.

The current record, 17.5" in Dover, NJ on Nov 26-26, 1938 came during a Nor'easter that buried the entire I-95 corridor with snow

Mother nature is doing its part to help smother the Jennings Creek Fire, the 5,000+ acre fire that has killed one firefighter and sent periods of smoke directly into NYC the past few weeks

Over 7" of snow is being reported in the area around the fire so far with more on the way

Important caveat:

ERA5 is the standard reanalysis used for past weather, but can occasionally have some discrepancies. A previous bomb cyclone in a similar location in October 2021 reached 942 hPa per WPC analysis, but was noticeably weaker in ERA5 reanalysis (h/t @gdimeweather.bsky.social):

Wasn't the low in October 2021 at a similar strength in the same area though? I remember it being 942mb

A major winter storm, severe storms within a Tornado Watch and a legitimate hurricane all ongoing simultaneously is not something that happens every day

Pretty wild to see them all together on one map
