Further cover proposals to be submitted to Berghahn in June along with the finished manuscript. The annoying a's are because that image hasn't been purchased yet for use on the cover if it is the chosen one. I have asked the other authors for ideas, too.

John, Stephen, and I have a manuscript due at Berghahn in June. We need to come up with cover art suggestions. Here is one I just did for John and Stephen as a sample. We do not try to deal with religiouis beliefs. Space aliens is one of the two case studies in Chapter 3.
I think I have stated the basic weakness of using AI in scholarly research as now practiced.
The Truth Test: If you trust the source, it sounds possible, and fits your beliefs, then it is true.

In the book I am writing for the Berghahn series EXPLANATIONS IN THE SOCIAL SCIENCES, I am occasionally using "boxes" to offer side information on what is being discussed. Here is an example from the Introduction.

@berghahnbooks.bsky.social In response to this message from the Department of Anthropology, University of Illinois Chicago, I just sent a message there about the new Berghahan series EXPLANATIONS IN THE SOCIAL SCIENCES to the 160+ colleagues on their listserve.

Their definition of a category is categorical rather than relational! A relational view is less costly & more useful. They accept the dogma in neuroscience that a brain makes π₯π§πππππ©ππ€π£π¨ rather than a pattern recognition device that accesses habitual πππ₯πππ©ππ©ππ€π£π¨, etc. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
This might make a good cover for the book I am currently writing for Berghahn Books.
Now available as an affordable paperback
Now available at a very reasonable price as a paperback!
I think this might be the right title for the book I am currently writing for the Berghahn series EXPLANATIONS IN THE SOCIAL SCIENCES.
All the claims today about artificial intelligence! This website is a good example. It begs questions such as what are data, what are patterns, and what is decision-making. Somebody needs to read the new books on intelligence and prejudice in the Berghahn series EXPLANATIONS IN THE SOCIAL SCIENCES.
Coming out in paperback in April.
Learning about the Epstein files makes it even more obvious Trump is in a league of self-anointed men (mostly). The old idea "just follow the money" is inadequate. Haven't yet spelled it out, but I want to use the idea of P.R.I.M.E. in what I am writing in my book about the evolution of stupidity.
Do you think it would have saved a lot of academic and public time and effort if Darwin had named his book this way?
It would still be about origins and might have found support from those more biblically inclined. Seven days might not even have been needed to get it all started.
For those of us old enough to remember Joseph Raymond McCarthy, the horror of reliving all that again is painfully real.
Does J. D. Vance & Co. use ChatGPT? Following up on an exchange with a colleague about the Pacific, I asked ChatGPT about the 2023 book we were discussing. What is frightening is how confident is this response though wrong! I am sorry to have to tell my co-authors they didn't write it with me!
There is a great lineup of books-in-the-works for this new series in 2026 and beyond . . . books on ancestry and heritage, belief, cannibalism, conspiracy theories, and the evolution of stupidity. Stay tuned for more news later this year . . .

Ok, I take back EVERY SINGLE NEGATIVE THING I have ever said about AI and ChatGPT. Briliant source of THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH.
The figure on the left is about why the anthropological concept of culture doesn't work. Briefly captioned (a) what 3 people each knows or imagines; (b) what they share with each other, (c) what is common knowledge in their wider circle which is even more open to individual interpretation and use.
I don't know about you, but I really like the covers of the books now done in my Berghahn series Explanations in the Social Sciences

Look at what made it to the top of the sales pitch! Sex, Risk, and Society . . . the first volume in the new Explanations in the Social Sciences series.
Chapter 2 in the book I am writing on the evolution of stupidity is called "Confronting Human Nature." This figure distinguishes between (a) "perception" and (b) "attention," and how our (c) "expectations" are the realm of dreams, fantasies, and delusions. "Cost" = metabolic cost. I hope it works.

I have added another folk idea
Cynic that I am . . .
A first run at making a table for the final chapter of the book on the evolution of stupidity I am writing.
