In addition to this, and to the OP, accommodations for differently-abled should be second nature in society. The amount of people "taking advantage" of these accommodations is mostly negligible. Many accommodations have given us the curb-effect, accommodations that ultimately benefit everyone.

Respectability Politics is presenting yourself in such a way that follows widley accepted social constructs with the belief you'll be treated fairly and respectfully. However, following this notion ignores the real issue: the unfair or disrespectful treatment had nothing to do w/ one's presentation.

I kinda have to agree. The costumes are w/in "repectability" politics. It's like they're saying, "Please don't arrest us while we exercise our right to protest. We're serious abt our rights but you can't possibly takes us too seriously or harm us in our silly little costumes.
