⏳ Only 2 days left! The submission deadline for the James MacKinnon 75th Birthday Conference is this Sunday, March 15. A great chance to celebrate his monumental impact on econometrics, from bootstrap inference to non-nested hypothesis testing.

New pub in @canadianpublicadmn.bsky.social 🥳 Federal eval. reports are increasingly interpreting "effectiveness" in terms of implementation rather than outcomes, despite the Policy on Results pushing the opposite—highlighting a real need for more flexible, "right-fit" eval. policy. Happy reading! 🔓
It's ironic to see a discipline care **so much** about unbiasedness (causal inference!) at the level of a single test but then have a research production system and culture that is basically a ferocious bias generation machine. This is not good.
Carleton's looking for outstanding researchers working and residing outside of Canada to join our faculty at the Associate or Full Professor rank as a Canada Impact+ Research Chair. Expertise in a wide set of research priority areas is welcome (see the ad!). Applications are due January 29th.
Another fantastic year with this group! Big thank you to @slaszlo.bsky.social and Gabrielle Vasey for organizing this year.
This was such a fun project to work on! Very excited to see it out in the world. Link to the article here (open access 🤩): journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...
So excited to share this article we recently wrote for
@voxdev.bsky.social! The TLDR: having regular discussions with community members helped improve student learning and enrolment. Full paper here (open access!): academic.oup.com/wber/article...

Happy election day, Canada! 🇨🇦 If you haven't already done so, this is a friendly reminder that voting is incredibly easy here. It took so little time that @chrisbaileyauth.bsky.social had time for a little post-vote coffee date after👏
Great news! Will the bike lanes run the entire length of Gladstone?
A little reminder for Canada #econsky: the CWEC/CFEC luncheon ticket at #CEA2025 has to be booked separately from your conference registration! www.economics.ca/event-5852688

Naked Economics by Charles Wheelan always comes to mind here! I’ve recommended this to many people, and have gotten lots of great feedback. It’s intuitive, comprehensive, and also really fun to read.
At our last departmental meeting, we had a vigorous discussion about the School's current and future social media presence.
Happy to say, the School has joined Bluesky! Check us out @carletonsppa.bsky.social and take a peek at the SPPA Starter Pack below.
