What did I do?
I do enjoy the discussions about educational research too, I just have little to add in that area.
One of the only wild ale breweries in the country are mixing complex groups of microbes to get complex fermentation profiles. Sometimes it is very nuanced, challenging and changes over time and is best when contrasting with other fermentation profiles. Hard to appreciate the complexity as a one off.
I was reminded of the first time I tried to read Faulkner and I complained to a writer friend that I didn’t get why the book was so revered. I’m not sure I was ready for that book at that time.
@michaelcralph.bsky.social when I heard you were tasting Jester King I said to myself “oh no!” Know your students.
Sunday at polar park!
Simply wonderful #MattersMicrobial podcast recording with Bob Kuhn, who teaches molecular microbiology to high school students in Georgia. So inspiring to me! microbe.tv
Jagr was also a teammate of Marchand.
@michaelcralph.bsky.social don’t worry, after finishing your podcast, I listened to Hidden Brain and the guest used the word schema several times.
It’s Big Brew Day. Making my “Hazy on the Details” NEIPA.

If you see me and wonder why I am smiling… YNWA
Sorry if I made you self conscious about it. I have a lot of phrase I found myself repeating when I’d edit my podcast. Unlike your appropriate use of a descriptive word, mine are mostly nonsense filler verbal ticks.
@michaelcralph.bsky.social minute 21
I know how to treat myself.
It’s how I generate dialogue with students to find out where they are on our hike through the wilderness to our destination.
Took 32 minutes @michaelcralph.bsky.social , but I appreciate the name check. I also felt like you were describing why I both love and constantly tweak all of the formative structures I have built for my biology class in the discussion.
This is heartbreaking to read but unfortunately so understandable. This is the first time in my career when I’ve actually started to think about how far away I am to retirement. It’s not the classroom work or the kids for me. It is all of the other asks.
@mrnishkumar.bsky.social put on an outstanding show. The Boston show had a real family atmosphere oddly enough. 10/10 highly recommend.
Getting ready for Nish Kumar to take the stage in Boston. ~30 minutes to show time.
Why aren’t the headlines about the current administration destroying American jobs? Why are people who work for the government not talked about as American workers?
Why does my mandated conflict of interest training feel like someone’s to do list?
Formative question 1: Identify the typical yeast and temperature ranges used for lagers, hybrid beers, and ales during primary fermentation. I will review this ext ticket and use it shape our next discussion.
I’m such a curriculum writing nerd I just found myself wring a sequence of things to assess on a post it note. It started with “overview of beer”.
I may need to write some formative assessments for you 2 about beer styles. So many cognitive areas to explore.
It was the first 5 minutes when Laurence says that both an ale and lager yeast were used to make a Kolsch that I shouted out “What is he talking about!?” It’s a hybrid ale that is brewed at a lower temperature giving it a lager like quality. It can also be Lagered (cold stored).
@michaelcralph.bsky.social good god, where do you and Laurence get your beer information? Talk about learning from mistakes. www.foodandwine.com/drinks/what-...
Is dear leader planning to force this on all teachers in 2025?

9th brew day of 2024. Not the most I’ve made in a year, but may be my highest quality brewing year.

I may have some wonderfully nerdy students.
