"mutualism is the future, not capitalism vs. socialism"
ok whatever you say boss, that is a very logical statement
"at least they've got the spirit, kinda" she mutters to herself while her head explodes
it is taking absolutely every fucking ounce of my willpower not to point out that it's an established anarchist economic theory lmfao help
this post brought to you by my boss, who thinks he invented mutualism as a concept and that isn't socialism
it is becoming increasingly clear to me that we are going to have to let libs think they reinvented communism from first principles and let them call it something else
Boo that sucks, I’m sorry
I know that Chicago has free brokers you can use to help find you places in managed apartment buildings (they get a cut from the rental company if they fill it but you don’t pay), but I am not sure it helps with this kind of stuff. Have you tried that?
Yikes
or as chicagoans call it, a frunchroom
I don’t have plants yet (black thumb, too scared lol) but I do have a south facing sunroom :)
Yeah. If things go south, I can consider getting a roommate since I have the second bedroom, but woof lol do not miss it.
I should also probably mention, because this is the internet, that I barely make enough with my base salary to cover my bills, but it was worth it to me to live alone and have more space. I did just get lucky.
I guess my point is, until we address the housing shortage (Seattle is not good at this, for ex, up until recently you were not allowed to build units more than 4 floors lol, and everything takes fucking years) and enforce stricter regulations on landlords, it will still suck shit, just in new ways.
My last place I lived in Seattle ($1750 for a 1bed half the size of my current place btw), the only reason I was able to get it is because I was the 2nd person to view an empty unit, missed being able to apply, and ended up getting a different one that hadn’t gone on the market yet. Still bonkers.
He’s just some guy who has a real job, is pretty good at responding when I need something, and last time I signed a lease, did not raise the rent at all. And I only pay $1850 for a large 2 bedroom.
Anyway, far north side ftw tbh
When I moved back to Chicago I decided to go outside the hipper areas so I could get a bigger place, and the more I see people talking about renting here the more I realize how fucking lucky I got. I talked my landlord, who I found on Craigslist, to rent this place to me from 2000 miles away.
which means that if a listing has been up for more than a few hours, good luck!
the main problem with this system is that now instead of getting outbid, you have to monitor listings like it’s your fucking job and try to beat all the richer people to schedule the first showing
one thing I will give Seattle credit for is that they did pass laws that required renting to the first qualified applicant and rent rises for a lease renewal can’t exceed 10%YOY
There are of course people still getting screwed and it causes other problems, but you don’t see this shit much anymore
a bunch of delivery bots in Chicago have destroyed the glass at several bus stops, imagine one of these being pointed at a car dealership
no reason
just saying
bet it’s still not immune to caltrops
So that’s where all this anxiety came from, the universe needs a proper call center
mine were worse when I was younger, so there has been improvement at least
