Two-thirds of parents think digital literacy should be a high school graduation requirement.

At the same time, majorities are at least somewhat concerned about potential problems with AI, like unequal access conferring an unfair advantage, AI collecting their kids' data, or AI leading to biased evaluations of students.

Many parents are at least somewhat comfortable with various uses of AI in the classroom; they are less comfortable with AI being used for grading and assessments.

Many parents are unsure about whether their kids' schools have policies on AI -- or even if AI is being used in the classroom right now.

Overall, 59% of parents report their kids are already using AI for schoolwork, with grammar checking the most common use. High schoolers are using AI more than younger kids.

There's a similar split on whether AI will have a positive negative effect on education, and whether it will make kids more and less prepared for college or career. This is nuanced -- parents think AI will help in some ways, but hurt in others.

Open ended comments on AI in education were nearly evenly split, with a third positive, a third negative, and a third mixed or uncertain. Below are some illustrative quotes from the companion focus group.
