Until earlier this morning, I worked for NIOSH. The whole Institute was gutted. 873 employees. All of Occupational Safety and Health research cut. Devastating.
Concerning NIOSH: I worked in miner safety & hygiene for years. Every piece of respiratory protection equipment that we put into service required NIOSH approval as a starting point. I’m talking about silicosis & mesothelioma prevention - serious stuff. NIOSH approval is the gold standard.

At Trump’s behest, Republicans are fielding Medicaid cuts in the range of hundreds of billions of dollars. The change in income limits that determine eligibility, which already vary by state, could place millions at risk of losing health care.
From a crude markets perspective, this is a catastrophe for the pharmaceuticals industry (combined market cap: $1.88trn) and biotech industry (combined market cap: $1.32trn). Five alarm fire, "everything we depend on to create value is being dumped down a sewer", catastrophe.

This whole piece by @sbagen.bsky.social is excellent. 🧪
At least some good news! Grantmaking at the NIH has begun to move again after a 2-week standstill. Peer-review meetings and grant reviews have resume, but restrictions on public speaking & travel remain. Some relief, but "normal" is still distant. 🔬🧪🧬 #NIH #ResearchFunding #SciComm

Horrifying!
The Trump administration blamed the dismantling of USAID on its workers’ high levels of “insubordination.” Nothing like gaslighting America.
