nicely done! we're trying mScarlet3 with KRas6R based on your Addgene now

These images show live embryos of animals (jellyfish, crustacean, worm, sea urchin, sea squirt, beetle) and one of animals closest single-celled relatives. They were captured taking advantage of fluorescent proteins localised on the outer membrane of cells, allowing us to observe cell outlines. 1/9
oh, the artist is on bluesky, hi!

Hasbro who owns a variety of world-building franchises committed to not use generative AI for creating final art.
Which reminded me how much I love the art behind Magic the Gathering. And Jolly Gerbils in particular, this card is a whole vibe.

Are the days of discovering new cellular structures over?? /1
Posting a screen shot here cause I don't want to give them traffic but they're on these other platforms. Makes me want to poke hot knives in my orbits

thanks @jopabinia.bsky.social for bringing this up
Beware of this Instagram channel with AI-made deep ocean crap.
We love to see these cross-over papers, that repeat geno-pheno experiments across species!
Zebrafish finds Nemo. New paper with our great collaborators on gap junctional communication in widely divergent species.

Never seen a more compelling endorsement for submitting your work to GENETICS @genetics-gsa.bsky.social
A green and black caterpillar with a ruffle texture in the top image. Bottom image is a bit of Locke. Attached to a twig and the two images look very much alike
That’s a caterpillar in the top image with the bit of lichen it’s supposed to be at the bottom. See the next post to get a closer look at the caterpillar. Been looking for more of the caterpillars but get faked out by the lichen.
We are proud to unveil the world’s longest underwater timelapse, starting May 1st 2023 and running 1,000 days through January 28, 2026. This 10fps period covers summer 2023’s coral bleaching mortality event, but then recovering and growing through ‘24 & ‘25 into ‘26 #coralcitycamera

This paper is super cool. Squeaky-clean genetic evidence that Wnt cis-regulatory alleles tune horn length in caterpillars.
1/ 🚀 Excited to release: napari-mcp - agentic control of napari from any MCP-capable AI assistant!
Use it for interactive image processing, analysis, and visualisation! Really cool project from @ilan-theodoro.bsky.social from my team!

BarH ----| pterin granule formation must be a conserved module dating to before butterfly/bumblebee split
Pterin polymorphism predictably map to this master switch in setae and scales.
A map of anatolia, indicating the spatial distribution of yellow and white bees.

I've just had a jaw-to-the-floor moment with this new paper from the Hines lab. They describe a yellow-white switch in bees, which maps to the same TF as the yellow-white switch in Colias butterflies, previously described by the @chriswheat.bsky.social lab. journals.plos.org/plosgenetics...
Heliconius erato demophoon sat on a pink, yellow and white lantana flower. The left side of the butterfly is white, while the right side is the usual black and red, but with some white clonal patches.
New preprint form me and the McMillan lab at STRI and Martin lab at GWU, digging into scale cell type specification and differentiation in Heliconius wings, with some insights on the lncRNA gene ivory.

Amazing peppered moth story from Saccheri lab - same locus, but different structural variants, underly parallel evolution of industrial melanism in the UK and across continental Europe.
4D4 is 🏅. Thanks @dshb-antibodies.bsky.social for everything you do! #Dros26 #fluorescencefriday
Cut defines butterfly wing shape like a Cookie Cutter!
(PS imaginal disks are much flatter than in Drosophila)
And it cross-hybridizes to other insects!
