Google's oversight on its web store let malware run unchecked for 1 year Google just disabled a popular extension (Save image as Type) and removed it from the Chrome web store because it contains malware.

Google recently disabled the “Save image as Type” Chrome extension and removed it from the Chrome Web Store.

For millions of users who relied on it to save images in formats like PNG, JPG, or WebP, the move came as a shock.

However, it appears the extension contained harmful malware.

A portable television, in a very 'space age' case: the top is ivory but the sides and frontispiece are cherry red. Twin antenna sprout from the back, a silver tilted carry handle sprouts from the top, and a huge silver grille allows both airflow and speaker. There are a bare minimum of controls on the top of the device itself: an on/off push toggle, a silver tuning dial, a rotary display behind a glass window for current station, and recessed plastic wheels for h-hold, v-hold, brightness, and volume.

Top, the "Elite" logo - a gold aguila with silver wings and helmet behind the word "ELITE." Left is a screenshot for the BBC Micro B and B+, and right is a screenshot for the BBC Master; both show the player, a first person spacehip, focusing on an enemy ship with stars flying in the background; gauges appear in the bottom left and right, and the now industry standard isomettric radar on the bottom of each screenshot shows the player is surrounded. Below is dense copy, describing the complex aspects of gameplay (exploration, combat, trade, and quests); below that, the Superior Software logo (a red and white interlinked pair of Ss), the Acornsoft logo (an egg), and an order address (mail and phone only) are listed below.

We should be doing the same thing here. Especially since none of them are really trustworthy at this point.

And Microsoft is a fucking mess without the other issues.

Microsoft says it has “received a limited number of reports of devices failing to boot.” It affects the latest Windows 11 update with KB5074109 installed. This mandatory update “patches as many as a hundred known security issues, which is why it’s installed automatically on PCs.”
