Poster with text, "The American Scream," and image of Edvard Munch's The Scream with American flag above bearing the legends, "Civilians killed," "Needless war," and "Tanking Economy"
A friend asked me to make her a placard for the #NoKings march today, and gave me specific directions re: imagery and phrasing. How did I do?
“Book banning is part of a larger project to really prevent people from learning and understanding and being educated about the world that they live in, which can then make them more susceptible to domination.”

Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads: The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same... - Marjane Satrapi, Iranian-French graphic novelist
Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.
We’ve got less than 20 days to get our queer romance/fantasy book, PASSING IN THE NIGHT, funded. We need your help! Please share the link and back if you can!

Offering this up again while I have a few copies. It's not much, but it is something I can share during hard times. I wrote this book to help others. Best I can do is get it to those who may be comforted by it.
Wow, soooo gorgeous.
What an adorable character!
i spent my entire comics career thinking i was slow as mud for taking 2-3 years to finish each book, until my french editor called me "fast" and when i asked what he meant by that he said that on average french artists are taking 5-10 years to finish a book
Happy Book Birthday to our book! Available for order wherever books are sold.

This is why I wish we had a Cartoonist's Guild. Not a collective. Not a union (legally not possible). But a guild with collective bargaining (and insurance omg).
But who of us has the time to maintain one??? We are kept so damn busy bleeding our fingers dry for publishers who have NO CLUE.
This. Read books. Join a choir. Invite your friends over for dinner. Paint a mural on your neighbor's garage with a bunch of kids and use it as a backdrop for the play your other neighbor wrote. Take up knitting. Give a sweater to someone asking for change. Socks too. Plant a garden. Spread beauty.

Activist Mollie Davis unfurled a scroll of all the school shootings in the US
In 2019.
I deliberately showed the end of the scroll in this illustration, with the hope & belief that there will be an end someday.
How much longer until we act??

The most popular comment on a model's video says "and just like that my hunger is gone. Thank you." And suddenly I am back in summer 2006 where we were all taught skinny was the only kind of beautiful that counted, where the more nothing you could make yourself, the more worthy you were in existence. Your body should be non existent, the newspapers told us. Don't you dare take up space, you don't deserve it. We listened, because we assumed this was just the legacy of girlhood - to make yourself as small as possible. If there is anything I wish I could tell us back then, all young hopeful teenagers and strawberry lipgloss it is that hungry girls become hungry women who make a meal of their dreams to stay alive. Do not deny yourself the delights of this life. Instead make a feast of all that you are given. The love, the joy, the grief, the fury and become women of appetite. Women of want as much as need. - Nikita Gill

The best thing
is when
I feel down about my writing,
but then open
a manuscript anyway
only to fall in love
with it
all over again.
You know what I mean🫶💪
Also, congratulations everyone who made something this year. A comic, a song, a film, a novel, a painting, a poem, a short story, a sculpture, crochet, embroidery, whatever it is. In this era of slop and theft, if you *make* something you are a shining jewel and I am so grateful for you.
Zach Rabiroff, as always, pulling back the curtain behind the people who make the comics-selling market tick. SO MUCH nitty-gritty behind-the-scenes info in this interview with Books With Pictures' Katie Pryde.
