If there are inefficiencies in NASA science spending (and I don't doubt there are!) then addressing those WITHOUT reducing the budget would mean more science, more innovation, more return on investment, more benefit to humanity. But realistically, cutting science funding by half just cuts science.

So much false equivalence in media on gerrymandering in Texas vs California & Virginia. California and Virginia maps approved by the voters. That's a huge difference not enough people pointing out
Blah blah sowing blah blah blah reaping...
Oh, for Thoth's sake, please shut the fuck up already about "AI." Give us reliable, deterministic systems with good prediction models for crowded airspaces, not hallucination machines that can't spell "blueberry."
Germs are woke and soy and if you're lethalitymaxxing they can't infectionmog you.
...kill me
The fact that regret rates on transition are basically 0 means that not nearly enough people are trying it out.
This is an extremely obvious and banal point that I have been surprised to find is hard to land with people both-sidesing the AI debate. The highest VC funded companies in tech saying “we want to ruin your lives” as marketing copy > any flavor of online poster anti-Ai hyperbole you can find.
This Is Just To Say
I have turned off

Fuck you
they were stupid
so unnecessary
and so annoying
The truely frustrating thing is those who took it seriously, who cared about the risks to others and changed precautions as we learned more, really did pay a price that will never be understood by the free riders who thought having to eat on the patio instead of inside was too big of an ask. 🔚
4 frame comic. text is floating in white clouds. we see a bench in a park, a computer chair in front of a bright computer screen, someone with a scarf over their mouth and sunglasses, in assault gear, and finally 2 pigeons in a park. text reads : "my name is m******. I have something to share that I'm not proud of. as a sheltered teenager, I was active on forums that led harassment cam- paigns against trans people on the internet." "we would su*cide-bait them, attack their friends and family, hurl slurs and threats at them. I was getting told that this was a higher form of humor that most people didn't understand. it made me feel special." "I almost lost my best friend after he discovered how I was spending my free time. his sister is trans... he got very upset with me. I chose his friend- ship and left these forums. looking back on it, I was lucky. I could have doubled-down. I'm glad I didn't, when I see the crowds I hung out with getting radicalized. this could have been me." "I'm not asking for forgiveness. I realize that I've hurt people. I still wanted to share my story, because people need to know that they always have a choice. it's never too late to get off of this spiral of hate."
Spiral of hate
I don’t think this game of “The serious candidate gives a suboptimal answer and gets hammered for it, but the clown candidate gets a free pass for being a clown” is a sustainable way to do politics.
4-panel comic. (1) [Glowing black dot surrounded by clouds.] DOT: I think I did a good job with this universe. Pressure waves dance through gas clouds. They clump together and then pressure pushes them apart. (2) [Some of the clouds are clumping together.] DOT: Oh weird, that big clump of clouds is staying together. Their gravity is overcoming the pressure and more gas is falling in. (3) [More clouds are sucked in.] DOT: It’s not stopping! The heat is rising but the collapse is only accelerating! I messed up. I messed up *bad*. (4) [The clump has become a shining star.] DOT: NOOOOOOOO!!! My beautiful clouds! Ruined! It’s all ruined!

One of the biggest lies in American culture is that the wealthy got wealthy by making morally good choices (ie working hard) and the poor got poor by making morally bad choices (ie being lazy and irresponsible) and that they both deserve what they got.
This is Lindsay Garcia. She is a Louisiana 5th District Congressional Candidate.
We’ve been asking for fighters!
Well … here’s a fighter!

Oh, wait, you said wrong answers only. Sorry.
When they said "AI will increase productivity" I didn't realize they meant "AI code will crash the social media networks on which I procrastinate, forcing me to actually do my job"
Ah yes, Book of Armaments! Some good feasting in that one!
BLUESKY IS A WEBSITE THAT TURNS (post by jay.bsky.team claiming that bluesky is made with AI) INTO (picture of bluesky not working)
it is crazy that a political party spent four years calling gay people groomers only to be revealed as a giant pedophile ring and when the American people put the pedophiles in charge the pedophiles are trying to make gay marriage between adults illegal.
cant make this shit up.
Dominique Pelicot was drugged by her husband and raped over 200 times by 70 different men. Only some of them were caught. There’s an entire online network of men, dedicated to teaching each other how to drug and rape their partners. CNN investigated the “rape academy”.

I think this is the most likely explanation for what unfolded after the fact. #DonaldJChrist
A meme that with the headliner: "T. Kingfisher Writing a Book", and below it it "I am going to put that sensible middle aged woman in a situation."
With sincere apologies to @tkingfisher.com.
ai has a “pr crisis” because we’re being told that it will replace everyones jobs and the plan from there appears to be to have to deal with not having a job or money. no one believes that the tech billionaires will bestow UBI or anything at all onto the “permanent underclass”
FWIW my spouse got me a set of Tramontina enameled cast iron cookware a few years ago and it's been great; one of my favorite things to cook in!
