"What remains when iteration ends?"

Happy Launch Day to @tomdellaringa.bsky.social with "Void Refrain"! The Deep's most famous Dynamic Duo -John & Alvis- are up to their old tricks again! Fun times & utter chaos are a given! Such a great series!

Much better, my "room banishment" wound up being very relaxing. Now I'm in that gross 'it's all coming out' phase, kind of like John hopping dimensions...

OK, not sure if this will work on Bluesky, but I post these "read-a-thon" summaries on Instagram pretty regularly.

The theme this time was books based in Scotland. And naturally, my love of horror and scifi should be very apparent!

Yeah, and I'm sitting in Europe right now (it's a little chilly but otherwise okay) and we're doing pretty good.

"He was wrong. He’d not caught the monster. It had caught him."

Call the scyfy channel, this could be the next "Sharknado" or "Cocaine Bear"! Even though it contains tons of death & mayhem, it's more unintentionally funny than horrifying.

"We are all manifold. There are bright angels and dark demons in each of us."

Beautifully written wildly twisting mystery & gripping horror tale. Filled with misdirection of the highest sort! NOT a re-telling!

"The whole thing, clearly, was mad."

A fun break from my "usual", tickling my funnybone completely. I mean, who wouldn't want a job (it was still on the web!) on a Scottish isle helping hide aliens from the rest of the world?

"Are you sure it was a natural death?"

A clever story abt. the β€˜West Port Murders’ of 1828. It's not told from the perspective of Burke & Hare (the killers) or Dr. Knox but rather the women in their lives. An unfiltered look at Edinburgh of that time.

"This night wounds time."

Interesting read, covering both the Flannan Isles Mystery of 1900 + experiences of a crew of scientists working on the same island 32kms from land in 1999. It's not long before this dreary world starts getting really BIZARRE!

Yes! The monster literally spends most of the book moaning & groaning in its underground lair. The book itself is just silly (the Saurians having been here for 100s of millions of years)! The main character goes from being a determined & intelligent young woman to a poor lost damsel in distress!

"It is an unlucky place, an evil place."

A young school teacher living in London is ever so lucky & inherits a Scottish castle from a previously unknown relative! And it sits right on Loch Ness! What could ever go wrong? Hint: run away, this is awful!
