When one child has a birthday, buy a small gift for the other as well.

We do that in our family and it works quite well.

I came back from abroad during a Covid lockdown and was legally required to quarantine for a period. This wouldn’t be so difficult.

I specialised in moral philosophy. You’re going to exposed to a lot of nastiness in moral philosophy if you don’t want to treat it as an abstract language game.

I never felt like I was censored. Perhaps because I wasn’t (for example) saying that trans people were perverts.

Nope.

Look, I studied and taught philosophy (as a grad student) at university. We looked at uncomfortable stuff. That did not extend to inviting neo-Nazis to give lectures.

Oh, I saw it as well! Taped it on VHS.

It was my introduction to the idea that cartoons can be gory as well.

… what? Oh, oh, the rest of this thread is going to be bad, isn’t it.

In the article, she apparently asks for a ‘kinder debate’ about trans rights, which tells you how much support trans people are going to get from Stonewall.

Has he told any lie greater than this one? I have never seen a person with a more pathological desire to be liked than Elon Musk

Occasionally in my twenties I slept in the same room as a female friend. It was remarkably easy not to sexually assault them.

United States Ambassador To Italy Mrs Clare Boothe Luce Listens To The Words Of Pope Pius Xii,During An Audience At The Pontiff'S Lakeside Summer Residence.13 October 1955

American conservative politician Clare Boothe Luce converted to Catholicism in 1946.

In a 1953 meeting with Pope Pius XII, she was fiercely lecturing the pontiff on the Church's moral duty to fight communism when the Pope finally interrupted her.

"You know, Mrs. Ambassador, I am a Catholic too."

1/ The fall of Victor Orbán is being mourned as a catastrophe by Russian warbloggers and commentators. They lament the loss of a man whom they openly call "a 'Trojan horse' in the EU" and blame the Russian government's ineffective attempts to interfere with the election. ⬇️

If Scruton is remembered at all, I hope it is for his constant support of right-wing European authoritarians and separatist movements, taking bungs from tobacco companies and Orbán, and spreading hate towards migrants and LGBTQ+ and non-white people, all for ephemeral lucre and hollow, empty medals

As a sometime-postgrad student, one reason why I wanted Orbán out was that he forced the Central European University to relocate to another country. A rather extreme hostility towards learning.

So… over 50% of the Hungarian election vote is counted, it seems likely that Tisza is on track for a super majority, and The Guardian reports that Viktor Orbán has conceded defeat.

Good for Hungary, and hopefully a good omen for the rest of the world.

I’m sorry, is he saying that the man who forced the Central European University to MOVE COUNTRIES is a man who supports intellectual work?

That sounds odd to me. In Britain, we have opaque boxes. We also only recently require ID at polling stations - a law that seemed to make no sense as we simply don’t have that type of electoral fraud. It was actually seen as the Tory government trying to make voting difficult.

The Hague? You mean that city with the court which, if it puts any American on trial, would mean that the US would attack the Netherlands?

The reason why bigotry is unethical is directly linked to the fact that it’s so utterly pointless.
