Job alert! We are seeking a rodent in vivo electrophysiologist to work on coordination between anterior thalamus and hippocampus in rats using Neuropixels. Beautiful Scotland, leading university (Glasgow) and vibrant intellectual setting. Post is 23 months but hopefully extensible. Details here ๐

Beautiful! I am glad it's getting a bit warmer here - It's time ๐!
Such a beautiful study: Cognitive ethology of nest building in a shell-dwelling cichlid: Current Biology www.cell.com/current-biol...
They even 3D printed "sinistral shells" and showed that the fish can adapt to the altered geometry.
Amazing. What I find most impressive is how he goes around the rock to approach from another angle. Cool spatial awareness.
This looks like a significant discovery from Doris Tao's lab:
Rapid concerted switching of the neural code in the inferotemporal cortex

Wow! Locus Coeruleus (LC) norepinephrine neuron. Take that, Claustrum!!
SAM3 on your cell data (through OCTRON).
This is cool. Consider trying out the SAM models too, available through OCTRON octron-tracking.github.io/OCTRON-docs/
A photograph of the anglerfish species Bufoceratias wedli from the Field Museum of Natural History imaged in vivid green and red. It looks upsettingly like a warped human head with thick red lips and small red teeth and a large chin. Its tiny tail sticks out of the back like a ponytail. CREDIT: Matthew Davis
A digital drawing of a vivid green and red merperson with a large head inspired by the photograph of the anglerfish. The pectoral fin of the anglerfish has become an ear; the tail of the anglerfish has become a ponytail. There are small red ear and nose piercings. The merperson appears happy, and sits in a tucked position reminiscent of a little old grandmother. The drawing is signed by the artist, Danna Staaf.
Got sent a press release for this awesome paper doi.org/10.1643/i202... by @anoplogaster.bsky.social and became instantly obsessed with the much-too-human face of the attached anglerfish photo (credit: Matthew Davis), so I had to give it a body
For those who missed the talk:
the recording is now available on YouTube:

New paper (with lots of cute animal videos!)
Ever watch your dog "run" while asleep and wonder whatโs going on in their brain? In Current Bio we suggest that those twitches aren't just leaky dreamsโtheyโre a vital maintenance system for the most precise movements

You underestimate the colossal pain of academic silence. They say trauma is when you go through tragedy without even compassionate observers.
Dehumanization happens when thereโs silence, no expression of collective pain.
Are we not seen as humans? Colleagues?
Would you all be so silent about MIT?

This got press hate because of the word "emotions" but it is cool work. "Internal motivational states" serve as a form of working memory that helps animals organize their behavior, so why not ask if similar computational primitives help LLMs to do the same?
Since @napari.org just released 0.7.0 I also checked if my to little plugins still work and released new versions with some small updates.

Reviewer #2: โThe aims are not well defined and the impact is unclear, what specific question is being addressed?"
Love this. I like to think about those forrest birds thinking about their "shrill and high-strung" city cousins and talking to their kids like: Ah those stressed souls, don't move to the city, kid!
Tried openalex.org as replacement. It's comparable, though has its flaws too (I don't think it's superior).
Yeah! โจif you want to discuss - Iโm available.
Immense respect for handling this situation with this level of integrity. Mistakes happen. Science is a process.
Really cool project, I like the video soundtrack (:
I would love to see integration with OCTRON and custom trained yolo models. octron-tracking.github.io/OCTRON-docs/ - maybe we can make that happen!
This conference is going to be so cool! Good science good people good location. Register ASAP! #neuroskyence

Wow this is really cool ..!!
Charming indeed โบ๏ธ
It's really great. Thank you for doing this - great resource.
New protocol from the lab out! Spearheaded and perfectionised by @amycourtneyyy.bsky.social . May it be useful to many to uncover brain activity in non model marine organisms! ๐๐ฆ
New preprint alert ๐ฃ We are sharing our protocol for calcium imaging of acute brain slices from Octopus vulgaris hatchlings during application of neurotransmitters. Another fruitful collaboration between the Schafer and Seuntjens labs www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
This is why we love #CalciumSignaling
Look how mechanical damage triggers long range Ca2+ waves in this plant !!

If you're interested in the intersection of neuroscience ๐ง and software engineering ๐ฉโ๐ป, these are excellent opportunities. Great teams and a supportive working environment.
Can't recommend them enough! #neuroskyence
