Blue badge holders: how are you treated by other members of the public when out? Have you experienced reactions from other people when using your blue badge? We’d like to hear from you

Have you ever been criticised in public for using a Blue Badge? I’m looking to gather disabled people’s experiences for The Guardian to explore hostility around the Blue Badge and Motability schemes.

We’ve made a quick form you can fill in here: www.theguardian.com/world/2026/a... (Please share.)

I was very glad to take part in @disabilitywales.bsky.social Senedd Election hustings this evening on behalf of Plaid Cymru.

Diolch to everyone who attended and submitted questions and comments on issues which much be addressed if we are to see a fairer, more equal Wales.

Black text on a white background reads: From Barely Surviving to Truly Thriving - Disabled People's Manifesto 2026-2031. Survey results. Below are two shapes that look similar to a bar chart representing the percentages. On the left is a dark blue bar with white text saying: 62% feel their rights are not adequately enforced. On the right is an orange bar with black text that says: 94% are not confident that things will improve in the next five years. DW's logo is in the top right corner.

Rights should be enforceable, not aspirational.

62% of disabled people who responded to our survey said their rights aren’t effectively upheld, and 94% don’t believe things will improve in the next five years.

Our manifesto is a demand for change.

We're deeply saddened to report the death of Graham Findlay.

A former colleague and a long-standing disabled people’s rights activist, Graham’s contribution, especially in the field of accessible housing, was immense. He will be greatly missed.

If the government are serious about supporting Deaf and Disabled people into work, they need to properly fund the Access to Work scheme.

We’ve called for incorporation of the UNCRDP into Welsh law for 15+ years, and we’re still waiting.

Without it, disabled people’s rights remain aspirational, not enforceable.

That’s why this is Call 1 in our manifesto.
