3/ At CHRF, this data doesn’t just stay in the lab. It informs policy, guides public health decisions, and ultimately contributes to protecting children's lives.
2/ Work like this is where critical data begins, every sequence helps us understand how bacteria evolve, how they respond to vaccines, and much more.
1/ Another busy week at CHRF’s genomics lab. Our Research Officer, Deb Purna, is in the middle of library preparation, carefully getting bacterial DNA ready for whole genome sequencing.
5/ With one paper already submitted and five more in queue, the workshop ended on a high note! As it concludes, we hope participants leave not only with well-structured manuscripts but also as more responsible, confident, and skilled researchers and writers.
4/ Selected participants also took part in a 4-day writing retreat in Thailand, where focused work and collaborative learning blended to create an immersive learning experience.
3/ Starting from February 2026, the workshop combined lectures, discussions, assignments, and peer-review sessions, allowing participants to write, refine, and advance their own manuscripts.
2/ The workshop is supported by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Council (BBSRC) International Partnering Award from the UK Research and Innovation. In this cohort, we were also joined by guest lecturers, Dr. Amira Roess, George Mason University, and Dr. Nicol Janecko, Quadram Institute.
1/ Good scientific writing, that is clear and intentional, is a core skill that every researcher should master. To strengthen this skill, 15 researchers joined the second cohort of our Scientific Writing Essentials workshop, learning how to craft clear, well-structured, persuasive scientific papers.
5/ Through decades of data generation, collaboration and advocacy, this work has helped shape policies and advance efforts to protect Bangladeshi children. Platforms like this conference help carry the impact forward, connecting local work to a global mission.
4/ Since the 1990s, CHRF has been at the forefront of typhoid research, measuring disease burden, tracking antimicrobial resistance, and using genomics to map its spread.
3/ At the conference, organised by the Coalition Against Typhoid (CaT) of the Sabin Vaccine Institute, CHRF presented its work, sharing insights from Bangladesh with researchers, policymakers, and public health experts.
2/ And this year, at the International Conference on Typhoid and Other Invasive Salmonelloses in Cambodia, CHRF had the opportunity to proudly share our work on typhoid and its impact on a global stage.
1/ In October 2025, Bangladesh launched one of the largest typhoid conjugate vaccine (TCV) introduction campaigns to date, where over 40 million children were vaccinated across the country.
3/ Organised by the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), ESCMID Global is a five-day event that will bring together global experts to exchange ideas, foster collaboration, and drive innovation in the field.
2/ On 19/04, Dr. Senjuti Saha will deliver a keynote, exploring how fostering local scientific capacity, alongside integrated and sustainable approaches, can strengthen global health security, enhance preparedness for emerging infectious diseases, and promote equitable access to tools and knowledge.
1/ ESCMID Global 2026, one of the world’s leading events in the field of infection, begins on 18 April in Munich, Germany.

On 19 April, Dr. Senjuti Saha will deliver a keynote, exploring how fostering local scientific capacity, alongside integrated and sustainable approaches, can strengthen global health security, enhance preparedness for emerging infectious diseases, and promote equitable access to tools and knowledge.
9/ As the visit comes to an end, we look forward to learning from one another, growing together, and strengthening a collaboration that bridges science across borders.
8/ Through this visit, we came away not only with new knowledge from their sessions, but also with insights from how they approach science and life.
7/ The visit to our surveillance sites in Mirzapur was a highlight of the week. As the team witnessed firsthand how samples are collected, especially in low-resource settings, they were able to connect more clearly with the actual communities behind the data.
6/ The Q&A that followed was filled with thoughtful questions from the CHRF members and BSB alumni who joined.
5/ Prof. Shalek also gave a talk, hosted by the "Building Scientists for Bangladesh" initiative, where he shared his insights from his research journey in single-cell genomics, including his work during COVID-19.
4/ The week was filled with conversations, curiosity, and connection. Our visitors explored CHRF’s laboratories in Dhaka and Mirzapur, exchanged knowledge through presentations, and conducted interactive training sessions for CHRF's single-cell genomics team.
3/ This collaboration brought together cutting-edge single-cell genomics technology and deeply rooted field data, helping advance our single-cell genomics work to better understand the impact of the pneumococcal vaccine.
2/ The @shaleklab.bsky.social team, led by Prof. Alex Shalek, included Tammy Lan, James Pan, Tyler Dao, and Jeff Gahan.
1/ Dr. Senjuti Saha, Deputy Executive Director of CHRF, shares her insights on the importance of such efforts and much more in her latest interview with the European Medical Journal (EMJ).
