Supposedly his second wife Mary gave him a shiner back in the 90s. Being confronted by a woman with long dark hair might give him some flashbacks.

I hadn't thought of this particular outcome, but it makes sense.

Traister noted that RFK Jr really loves podcasts. Usually he doesn't have to answer adversarial questions, and he can take his time talking because they often don't have a strict format.

Very different from a hearing in front of Congress.

he didn't like the push-back. He eventually left the organization about a decade ago.
Reportedly he could be adversarial with colleagues. He even had a falling-out with his colleagues (Boyle and Cronin).
So he may not be great at negotiating.
He even has issues with time limits when speaking.

It looks like he's been doing less environmental and more personal injury law since the 2010s. So that's 4 decades of not having to focus on defending himself or anyone else.
And when he did have to justify anything, like his hiring choices and budget stuff at Riverkeeper

Watching clips of RFK Jr in the hearing, and thinking -- he's a lawyer, why isn't he coping very well? Then I realized that he started out in the Manhattan DA's office, and when he worked as an attorney for Riverkeeper, he was suing companies and governments. Not much defensive game?

He'll probably be making even more mistakes than usual in his answers. Good.

Might be another reason why he seems to be stressed during the hearing.

Strange to realize that things which were once quite common (basically throwaway packaging), like containers for film and floppy disks, are now hard to find.
These little boxes would be great for mini free seed banks -- easy to open and you can see exactly what's inside them.

Understanding how bad you are is a great step! It's way better than "not understanding anything at all".
And that's how you get to "not being bad at it".

At this stage you've no doubt seen the meme that Trump only wants Greenland because of how much bigger it looks using the Mercator Projection.

While 100% true, what I think this meme forgets, it's still massive.

A woman with long dark hair standing up to him might be enough to give him flashbacks -- he told Olivia Nuzzi that when he was arguing with his second wife Mary back in the 90s, she hit him in the face. She had taken boxing lessons and her engagement ring damaged his tear duct.

Wild to think that this might actually work, @reubenroseredwood.bsky.social

Hoo boy -- Bobby's going to be venting in his diary tonight!
(along with his love affairs, one thing he was writing down was how he felt about encounters with various celebrities)

Olivia Nuzzi mentioned in her book that he doesn't do well when trying to make decisions under stress (she was having to explain basic PR strategies to him, when he heard the bear in Central Park story was going to break).

This is worrisome too. The informants could be doxxed.

So yes, I think we should be cautious about the chance that someone might try to use the laws that were brought in for going after criminal or even terrorist financing, against well-intentioned helpers.
That goes for domestic things too.

Also -- there was a situation on Bluesky recently, about some concerns re: donating or helping get donations to people in Gaza. And apparently someone found that not all of those individuals are in Gaza, and also someone was asking people to try to get around cash transfer rules.

Literally trumped-up attempt to go after SPLC which was investigating hate groups. If they can make this stick, I'm sure they'll go after journalists, academics, etc. too.

Photo of a purple Outbound internal-frame backpack (not my own Camp Trails backpack, which is a clamshell-type that converts into a carry-on bag). Probably late 1980s or 1990s, since dark purple, green, burgundy, etc. were popular colours for gear then.
Red arrows indicate the rectangular plastic fittings on the sides, that can accommodate strapping.

Photo from eBay listing of vintage (probably older than mine) Camp Trails XC mid-sized backpack from seller in Salem OR. It's top-loading (not clamshell), with a fabric skirt on the lid that extends down for more protection against rain. Pack is internal-frame, orange, with sturdier black fabric on the bottom. Ice axe loop at the bottom, and a pig nose attachment with strap through it for fastening the axe handle.

There are a pair of long black zippered pouches on the sides of the pack. The seller notes that these pouches were optional ones that could be added to Camp Trails packs, to carry more gear.

The black plastic strap-holders for attaching the pouches aren't visible in this photo, but they probably look much like the ones on my own pack, and the Outbound pack shown earlier.
I don't know if these pouches would also fit the Outbound pack (like if they're spaced far enough apart).

It took me this long to figure out that the black plastic fittings on the sides of my Camp Trails backpack, which I got in the 1980s when I was still in high school, are for a pair of additional pouches. All this time I'd thought they were for attaching sleeping bags/groundsheets, a tent, etc.

RFK Jr.: My Lizard
RFK Jr.: My Lizard YouTube video by Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

and wellness, and MAHA stuff is getting to be overwhelming for him. He's angry and frustrated. The only times he appears happy now are when he's playing with his grandkids, or catching snakes/lizards. His face lights up when he's showing people little animals, or his ravens.

I know Olivia Nuzzi's been mocked for American Canto, but I think she has some accurate observations about RFK Jr. He seemed to feel trapped and miserable. Maybe their affair was a type of escapism for him. He was saying he just wanted to leave it all and be with her. I think the anti-vax

The clip RR posted seems much more like the c. 2000 RFK Jr. He hadn't gotten into the anti-vax stuff then. He was still working for Riverkeeper and Waterkeeper, probably did have political ambitions but wasn't talking openly about it then. He seemed happier in a lot of ways than he is now.

Excerpt from new RFK Jr. bio by Vincent
Quote from early 2000 (his private diary)
"I've got a wonderful life ....I travel [and] meet great people, I'm highly regarded and am doing some good although I will not leave my kids much money, I'm leaving them good reputations and (I hope) values and a good education. I love them all and they give me such joy."

Kennedy has long been drawn to questionable science. But some of his former close friends have grown alarmed at the changes they’ve seen in him more recently. Last summer, Kennedy posted a video of himself shirtless, doing pushups, a sunburn blooming across his well-defined back and torso. The implication was that his then rivals, Trump, at seventy-seven, and Biden, at eighty, were comparatively old and enfeebled. On a podcast last year, Kennedy said that he was taking testosterone-replacement therapy under the guidance of a doctor. One of the side effects of that treatment is increased muscle mass. But the longtime friend told me, “It’s almost like he’s been body-snatched. I look at pictures of him, and he’s unrecognizable. His sense of humor is all but gone. There’s this anger.”
The tragedy of Kennedy, the former friend said, is that there is a lot of good in him. Kennedy is said to have a natural affinity with children, taking them fishing or falconing, enthusiastically explaining nature and animals. “That guy was kind of magical,” the former friend said. “And that guy appears to be gone.” The longtime Kennedy friend said that he has tried talking to Kennedy about the environmental havoc that, he believes, Trump will unleash. In response, he said, Kennedy just “goes on a rant about the D.N.C.” Nearly everyone who knows him is perplexed by his belief that he can win the Presidency. “Sure, he was anti-corporate when we worked together,” Barratt-Brown said. “But he is now anti-government in such a dark way.”

I've been getting the feeling -- and Vincent's new biography of RFK Jr seems to back this up -- that his personality's changed, mostly in the past few years. And the life he's been leading since around the time he moved to California is a lot different from when he was on the east coast.

I'm suspecting that some establishments are doing this to try to get rid of seafood that's past its prime.
Do you remember hearing about the scandal at the supermarket on Salt Spring -- the expired chickens being sent to the rotisserie?
