But I love one of the takeaways from the episode and I tried to summarise as such: it’s not about whether or not being in the fanbase makes one look good or not, but about the impact of one’s actions.

It surely doesn’t negate the racism. But one of my friends love the series and she even has a tattoo about it. My point is that for people who are not native English speakers and have read the novel in their own languages, it’s even trickier to understand why they love and support Rowling.

I didn’t know that the Asian girl was named Cho Chang, sounds like two surnames combined together, 周张。I knew her as 秋张 (means Autumn Chang). It was weird to my little teenager brain, but I thought her name was 张秋 and it’s a “English-speaking people just put their given names first” thing.😂

Cora Lingling Xu • FreshEd Today we explore how time can be inherited like status or wealth and what that means for higher education mobility and inequality.

I recently spoke with FreshEd about the argument at the heart of my new book, #TheTimeInheritors:
inequality is not only about what people have, but also about when they have it.

I also argue that support measures can reproduce inequality. @sunypress.bsky.social

"One participant noted the gay male bias of the Rabbit God story and re-created the Rabbit God as a nonbinary and genderfluid deity."

Agreed.

BTW, I just learned that 兔兒神 seems to be different from 兔兒爺, lol.

And I was thinking, wow, old Beijingers were indeed progressive, lol.

I think it’s incredibly orientalizing to assume that what Chinese people have to say in any language has no value unless its consumable by Americans

because when people from there talk to them and tell them it's not their socialist utopia, they say we are "westernised liberals", traitors, or whatever

International media, you can do better than this.

"Bamboo" is maybe exotic and a compelling hook but it is too easy. The real story here is the growing culture of corruption, including a lack of accountability and oversight, that enabled a chain of human errors that led to this disaster.
