Thanks for making me think deeper about this.
Also for helping me no longer agree with Leo. :-)

Fucking annoying when I agree with Leo Varadkar.
Political parties that hand out contracts to Palantir? Not part of a minimum viable democracy.
Political parties that sustain fossil fuels? Not part of a minimum viable democracy.
Political parties that accept fascist control over women's bodies? Not part of a... you get the picture.
The NHS is prime data real estate. The summary care records and other databases you are opted into, by default, are food for these slavering corporate fascists. You CAN opt out and not feed the Palantir beast via this link.
I'm really glad that Palantir's mask off evil is finally getting wider play, but I sigh when folks start saying "THEY'RE ALL OVER THE NHS!'

11 years in gamedev this week. Had an interview with Swen in Dublin... three days later I was in Belgium.
Mine belongs in Escape To Victory. Back to the goal, outside the box, the ball lumped forward by our defence. Opp defender behind me tried to flip me sideways so I couldn't control it. I let him. Used the momentum to spin and hooked a first-time volley over both of our shoulders. Lobbed the keeper.
Smug fucker moment. My late-night train is delayed by an hour. Realised that it's actually two trains from different cities that they couple together here for the rest of the journey. Switched tickets to the other half. My train's on time again, upgrade to 1st, and a €6 refund. Score.
_"The Government’s consistent cheerleading for data centre expansion has reached a point of reckless disconnect from the economic reality of Irish citizens... Irish families are paying nearly double the electricity rates of these industrial facilities, effectively subsidizing the massive energy consumption of global tech giants while struggling with a punishing cost-of-living crisis." https://greenparty.ie/news/uncritical-expansion-data-centres-will-fuel-social-inequality-and-energy-crisis-cllr-hazel-chu
Data centres uses 32% of Ireland's total electricity supply but pay almost less than half of the residential rate. So we're effectively subsidizing tech giants during a cost of living & energy crisis. Meanwhile this Govt continues to cheerlead their expansion & continue to fail in their obligations.
The Irish government is doing more to house computers than it is to house people, and is somehow making less money from it.

The Arbitration Bill, which govt is guillotining after 1hr of debate tonight, is a threat to Ireland.
The Bill only exists because the previous attempt to ratify CETA was unconstitutional.
Yet Govt are denying proper legislative scrutiny of the new version.

I don't think it's well recognised how much airtime the fossil fuel industry has gotten in traditional media because they're considered "experts" on fossil fuels, and because they have formal, jargony knowledge of oil and gas, that means they *must* be unbiased and rational and neutral somehow

Ireland’s COVID lockdowns were prolonged & severe because (thanks to decades of mismanagement and underfunding of or Health service) we had the lowest per capita of ICU beds in the EU.
The energy crisis will be particularly severe here, and @tupped.bsky.social explains why…
2 things can be true at once: the core aim of a protest can be correct and would be good for all if it achieved its aims, but also the protestors can be dangerous headbangers who should not be appeased. A can be B at the same time.

The purpose of culture war is not to *win*. The purpose of it is to keep fighting about nothing you actually care about, at astonishing intensity, as a distraction from you stealing from and fucking over the public. You pick topics specifically because you don’t care whether you win or lose.
