Read every night with your child! It makes a huge difference. My dude loves history. Now that my class has finished the middle ages unit of #CKLA , I brought a book home to read with him at bedtime. Yeah, it's THAT good.

This is how we kick off the Middle Ages unit in 4th grade #CKLA. Students were so excited about entering through the drawbridge ๐

All week, we celebrate kindness in our class. Students can write "snaps" to each other, then on Friday we meet on the carpet and I read them aloud. Last week, someone wrote this snap as we embarked on week two of our #CKLA pilot.

Although, my experience shows a few students who love getting those points. But in every case, they were already strong readers. Sure, let those kids use it and feel that success, but don't force every child into AR.
Not a fan. I second what @alicekeeler.com said and will add that it has children choosing books to read based on their point value. We should focus on helping kids find joy in reading and then reading because of that. NEVER should s grade be assigned for AR achievement.
Life of a teacher's kid...
August 1st means back to school is close. So, we head into my school to start chipping away at all of the tasks that need to be done before my new batch of 4th graders arrive.

Saturday morning, 7:45. Organizing my ridiculously messy drive. I've put it off long enough.

"What Mrs. Meucci taught her about working hard, being excited to learn, and having pride in herself are lessons that M will carry with her through her entire life."
A parent sent this email to my administration.
One of the best compliments I've ever received. #teacher #EDUsky #representationmatters
Woot!!! I finally got an invite code to give out. I've been checking for days. It's like online dating...finally a match! ๐คฃ

I know!! I was bummed I couldn't tag him. Aren't you guys like, besties?!?! If he won't do it for you, he certainly won't do it for me. ๐
My kids are enjoying soccer camp, and I'm learning about teaching with #ChatGPT from THE BEST, Matt Miller.

I LOVE my extended monitors at school.
Solid marriage advice.
Partial products for this girl. It's funny, though. If this was written vertically, I would've solved it using the algorithm in my head.
I LOVE all of the resources that Everfi has for elementary level! Such good content and engaging for students.
Clearly, he's never met a meteorologist. ๐คฃ
In UDL Now! Katie Novak writes, "Students pay attention to your unintended messages..."
A student gave this to me and said it's everything I taught her this year. โค๏ธ
Except these are VERY intentional messages, and I'm glad they are being received!

Ha!!!!
Surely she doesn't recommend NO ppp
I'll add it to my list. I don't want you thinking I'm one of those teachers :)
My math block (I teach the same kids all day) is hands on, fun, innovative, and confidence building. All I'm saying is that ppp still holds value when done in small batches within the above, and as an option through UDL.
I have not read that particular book. Paper and pencil practice, of course isn't the only way to give kids independent practice with a newly acquired math skill. For littles, it's important to do some alone and also to work on writing. It's one of many ways to teach all kids.
#Monday morning, back from vacay!!
Excited to be a part of #EDUsky, so digging into that while enjoying #coffee and watching my boy play #Splatoon.

LOVE the message about being kind but setting healthy boundaries in friendships. This isn't easy for kids (or adults), but maybe if we teach them young, they will get better at it. Adding it to my 4th grade read aloud list this year!

Oh man!! That's painful to even see. I do believe students need independent paper pencil practice. So if I must use a page like this, I tell them to choose 8. Several ask if they can do more, SURE! More than 8 is just torture.
Speaking of teacher dashboard (I use Schoology and really do love it), but Go Guardian is an incredible product for tracking which sites kids use while online, keeping them safe, and giving teachers control over access to sites. I don't know how I taught without it!
