“evaluation of these conditions for moral legitimacy belongs to the prudential judgment of those who have responsibility for the common good.”

Doesn’t this mean that only those in positions of legitimate authority have the prudential judgement to determine Just War alignment with their actions?

Quick and Meaningless Data Collection Help me collect some data to use for student examples! The questions on geographic region and gender will only be used for subsetting the data, not for student analysis. No questions are required -…

I NEED HELP!

Please take this quick, meaningless 19 question survey so I can get data for my students to learn stats!

I did a similar version a few months ago but missed an important question type. Even if you did the old one, please do it again!

Please circulate widely!

I hear they have keys that open doors now that can be shared with other people. Not having a trust advisor/assistant with a key is a choice.

As a NEW alum from a “related discipline,” I highly recommend those outside poli-sci and international affairs to apply. The Bridging the Gap tent is big for good reasons. Apply and get plugged-in to this dynamic network.

Happy to answer questions in comments or DMs.

This question is open to everyone:

I’ve tried to understand the Catholic requirements for a “Just War” but keep getting hung up on who determines alignment?

And secondarily what is the moral responsibility of individual members in nation-state militaries, conscripted or otherwise?

Part Three Section Two The Ten Commandments Chapter Two You Shall Love Your Neighbor As Yourself Article 5 The Fifth Commandment III. Safeguarding Peace

“These are the traditional elements enumerated in what is called the ‘just war’ doctrine. The evaluation of these conditions for moral legitimacy belongs to the prudential judgment of those who have responsibility for the common good.”

Who are those “[responsible] for the common good?”

A good editor would have saved the author from undercutting the hilarity of “ruminate” by explaining the joke with the “ruminant” reference.

Once in a lifetime opportunities like this should be handled with more concision and pithiness.

It used to be sharing these kind of images and there was a thin veneer of “just something people should look at” but more and more the handlers of these accounts are actually creating these images with clear intentions and no apologies or regret. Their only goal is to stir up shit.

What are your favorite space movies? I'm not talking far future stuff, but stuff like "Contact," or "Apollo 13," or "The Martian."

Stuff that is two steps into tomorrow.

Why Los Alamos lab is working on the tricky task of creating new plutonium cores Plutonium cores, or pits, act as the triggers for thermonuclear weapons. The goal is to make 30 new cores by 2026.

"Given an arsenal of hundreds of deployed warheads, the stakes of failure to modernize are that, in the event of the worst war humanity has ever known, some warheads might fail to detonate, letting millions live."
