Workshops are coming soon... enjoy Arizona everyone!
I say this not just because I'm a featured guest on the show --- an unanticipated consequence of a new technology is always worth thinking hard about.
The CBC podcast Understood is running a series on a nasty social problem: deepfake porn. The first episode provides a really interesting history of how computer vision technology took a dark turn about a decade ago.

Do We Need Subsidiarity in Software? #CHI2026 paper led by @louisaconwill.bsky.social. Subsidiarity is a principle where decisions or control occurs at the lowest level possible and the highest level necessary. Think about that for platforms like this one...

Usual disclaimer: All PAMI-TC motions are advisory. For this one, it's up to the PCs to implement.
We did pass a motion for this in 2014: "It is strongly recommended that CVPR publish, for each accepted paper, the reviews, meta-reviews and author rebuttals in anonymous format. This information should be made publicly available in the CVF archive of CVPR papers."

I'm a guest on the latest episode of History Uncensored, chatting about the history of photographic manipulation and its relationship to DeepFakes today. Lots of social problems related to this stuff, for sure, but also some under-appreciated cultural aspects.

My News & Views piece on computer vision data set fairness just hit @nature.com. Shortcomings have always been present in our data sets, with some recent work by Sony attempting to address them for model evaluation. We still have a ways to go though for training...
