“We’re helping too many people with disabilities” is a hell of a line from a Labor government

The schema is good: 1) fresh chain pizza, 2) Dr. Oetker Frozen Ristorante, 3) actual pizza from somewhere that actually knows what they're doing and actually cares. Each serves a different and important role in my life.
David Bowie's Let's Dance is an album I come back to regularly. Some pop music is part of a moment and then past. This is not that. I'm always struck by how Bowie's music seems written to be played live, (and we're lucky that his estate is releasing so many of his live recordings and rare gems).
Thinking on the current and long overdue popular campaign for gas resources taxing.
It’s not a new idea. Kevin Rudd championed a Resources Super Profits Tax. The well funded advertising counter campaign cost him the leadership.
Imagine if we’d been properly taxing resources for the last 15 years?!
Children’s story illustration of an orange-brown toad and bright green frog, the titular characters of the Frog and Toad story books.
Perfect colour and vibe for a live action version of Toad from Frog and Toad.
This is good #Auspol
More Aust Govt departments should stop using the nazified, misogynistic X/Twitter.
Palantir's CEO published a manifesto arguing Western tech firms have a "moral debt" to US military dominance, that AI weapons are inevitable, and that "some cultures are dysfunctional." This isn't just a regularly evil tech or defence contractor, it’s a fascist political project.
False positives are no small thing; it’s not a symmetrical cost. Even if it’s only 4% of false positives, the insult and stress of false accusations when you are innocent is something that government needs to prioritise as sufficiently common that we can’t treat the fines as automatically accurate.
This is awesome! Not just for viewing competition but also as tool in training.
Instead we'll throw unthinkable amounts of money at the USA for a few high profile vessels that make more sense if our goal were to serve as units in the USA's conflicts rather than genuinely building our own security.
I think about wars and conflicts around the globe, our spending on AUKUS, etc. I think we'd be better supporting Ukraine, learning everything we can and adding to their practical drone warfare. That would give us better tools to cover our border, air and water, and also bet met by local industry.
One very strange thing that occurs in some weird corners of Christian apocalyptic thinking is anti-semitic pro-zionism, with the motivation of hurrying along the end of the world, and the end game being general destruction but the conversion of a remnant of Israel to follow Christ.
Our politicians are pushing laws that limit protest and speech and they justify their overreach by conflating the two but there is a lot of clear air between them.
To understand the difference between anti-semitism and anti-zionism have a look at the sort of things that are getting Kanye in trouble versus the criticisms of Israel's policies and actions towards Palestinians and its military adventurism in general.
How will they cope with the World Cup or any time you host the Olympics?
'Australia's close ties to the United States were once a strength but have become a weakness' Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said.
Oh wait - that was Canada's PM Mark Carney.
For a moment there I was fantasizing that Australia had a real leader. #auspol

New national dietary guidelines are on the way. Just remember that they are an insulting nonsense and worse than a fantasy if the government doesn't also make sure that food fitting the pattern is easily available to everyone.
We don't say, "You're too poor to be healthy".
Shame our government likes ‘em for our closest allies, or as an aspirational photo stuck on the fridge; or something…
Just heard a really nice take on the change in software dev from using AI coding tools. Historically we’ve struggled with technical debt, (known weaknesses we allow because we prioritised something else), but AI coding creates comprehension debt (code delivered that we don’t truly understand).
Jesus wept, then laughed maniacally.
Saw her play at a modest venue in the early 90's. One of the great gigs, sort of place where people wandered off to play pool, or stood at the foot of the stage wrapped in it all. Exactly what rock was made for. (Saw the Divinyls at the same place and that is another awesome memory.)
That fits, the one at the top of Swanston street is about 100m from RMIT.
“We’ve so cooked our tax system that in Australia, the third biggest fossil fuel exporter in the world, when the price of oil and gas and coal go up, we feel poor.
- Dr Richard Denniss

I can tell when I put in proper work exercising by how long it takes to recover. I always find it hard to get started but even the aches afterwards can feel good.
There are at least a couple in the CBD one on Swanston and another on Elizabeth. Their main utility is providing clean toilets.
Good to see a couple of solid wins for pay inequality correction based on the Courts’ recognition of historical structural inequality in some jobs. We also need to bring this to inequality in more mixed workforces.
I should say that Irena died about a year ago, about a year after Vojtěch, but I heard about it today.
In today’s news I hear that both Irena Havlová and Moya Brennan have passed away.
The Havlovi, Pärt, and Nyman were my gateway to minimalism and small ensemble music.
Clannad and Steeleye Span were my first loves in the folk music scene.
Both have brought me joy and peace through my life. Vale.
