A few themes stood out: budget pressures, role complexity, political dynamics, and the importance of strong working relationships with administrators. The results aren't a major surprise, but they highlight why education for elected officials is critical to effective governance.
This article looks at what county commissioners say about the challenges of governing, the skills that matter most, and what contributes to effective boards, based on a statewide survey of commissioners that is informing how we think about future training, support, and research.
