My friend was watching CLOUD so I joined in. Wouldn't have picked this to be my first Kiyoshi Kurosawa outing but I'm glad I watched regardless.

what helps is that alongside the family drama is you also get some frankly awesome kaiju conspiracy espionage stuff where the plot and characters are constantly moving, constantly in the shit and having to improvise

aight I've watched up to Ep 5 of Monarch S2

the ridiculous amount of cheating across family generations was kind of hilarious at first but having it all lead up to scenes of just calm, honest confrontation about past sins made it all kinda worth it. The melodrama worked for me

Not to be a sourpuss on here but if I were to be a bit meaner, my feelings during Zeztz's earliest eps are still more or less the same right now:

Kamihoriuchi's directing is hard carrying; I am not vibing with the way the show is being written overall at all

I know him best as the one described as the "young suit actor" in the Decade Net movies. Now he's got grey hair, haha. Time flies.

apparently he'll also be directing one of the upcoming episodes himself, looking forward to seeing how that turns out

The consistently strongest aspect of Zeztz for me (other than Kamihoriuchi's direction) is how much Jun Watanabe cooks with the fights
