Thrilled to announce that I was selected as a National Press Foundation fellow. I plan to report a story on how workplace accommodations can be helpful for people with Long Covid as they deal with grief in changing with functioning. If this is you, please reach out at jmetraux@motherjones.com

Long Covid shares many characteristics with M.E./CFS and my LC grew up into proper M.E.
Graded Exercise Therapy can be lethal for those who have ME/CFS so this isn’t surprising.
More surprising is the ignorance of so many medical professionals.
"While the amendment does improve the legislation, it does not address a fundamental fact that the curfews are not working," says @robertwhitedc.bsky.social. "If it’s not working, why would we keep doing this?"
As we await the start of the D.C. Council's debate on the teen curfew zones bill, the Council's Office of Racial Equity has published its assessment of the measure. It says the zones disproportionately impact Black and Latino kids, who have fewer places to hang out in the city.
Today is Tinu's birthday.🎂
Tinu always had a birthday week and birthday month.
Celebrate her life and legacy!
Engage in mutual aid, do something for yourself, rest aggressively when needed, check in on your friends, read her words, say hello to some ducks!
So many ways to honor our beloved Tinu.✨

This would be a perfect excuse for Mamdani to provide leadership and issue a demand to NYC hospitals that have withdrawn from gender care for youths.
Beginning in March, ads targeting Black voters compare Virginia’s redistricting referendum to Jim Crow.
The mailers were sent by a little-known group that received $9 million in donations from Peter Thiel, the PayPal and Palantir co-founder who is a longtime mentor of Vice President J.D. Vance.
ID: An image shows a selfie of Mustafa Talat, a Pakistani doctor, in personal protective equipment including a high quality mask and hooded coverall suit. He also wears stylish wire framed glasses. The image is repeated three times - two of them have a light blue filter. The text reads, “The Sick Times. I developed Long COVID while practicing medicine. The system had no place for me. By Mustafa Talat.”
We’re here, we’re still practicing, and we deserve better than silence and self-management. Medicine asked for our bodies. It’s time medicine made space for what became of them.
Mustafa Talat developed #LongCOVID after working the first COVID-19 wave in a hospital in 2020. Without clear diagnostic criteria, he received no diagnosis despite limiting symptoms. The system that trained him to diagnose couldn’t acknowledge what had happened. bit.ly/4vFu9Yz
White tattooed fat nonbinary femme poses in a sultry way while reading a copy of Exploring Disability and Sexuality
Guess who is going to be on NPR’s 1A next week? Everyone’s favorite queer femme crip (other than @drsamischalk.bsky.social)! That’s right; a whole hour on sexuality and disability! That’s next Wednesday, April 22nd, at 11am Eastern.
TEEN CURFEW NEWS: There's plenty of movement within the D.C. Council ahead of a debate and vote tomorrow on a bill that would revive the 8 p.m. teen curfew zones that the city has been using since last summer. The bill authorizing the zones lapsed on April 15.
We only have about 10 slots left! Submit today! #InverteFest

Breaking: HHS’s ban on gender-affirming care is struck down. Rarely have I read a ruling this sharply worded.
“This case is one of a long list of examples of how a leader’s wanton disregard for the rule of law causes very real harm to very real people.”

The Israeli army struck civilians in the Lebanese city of Mayfadoun.
And then, the Israelis double-tapped the medics who arrived onto the scene.
And then, they triple-tapped the next wave of medics.
And then, they did it one more time for good measure.

it's so cool how comfortably employed legacy journalists can just follow a bunch of independent journalists, rip off their stories, and still pretend they are better than the rest of us.

I'm working on a story for @thesicktimes.org about RECOVER clinical trial results that have been shared so far (from the VITAL, NEURO, and AUTONOMIC studies), and am looking for people in the #LongCOVID and IACC communities to share what they think of the findings. DM or email me!
DC: tomorrow is the first day of one of my favorite springtime events - the Franciscan Monastery Garden Guild plant sale!
The FMGG grows vegetables year-round, and distributes them to local groups that serve the hungry. The plant sale is their main fundraiser. I’m going to pick up some seedlings
