for sure! βΊοΈ
yeah, i'm still trying to fully wrap my head around geonodes too hahaha
but yes, it's the latter; the model is animated manually and the plume system automatically responds to the movement. it allows for a bit more precision, but also requires some extra finesse to make the result look natural
hell yeah
*once i wake up lol
lmk if there's anything you want me to elaborate on, i'm happy to go into some more detail βΊοΈ
i've found it beneficial to use arrow empties located on planes intersecting the rotational axes instead of measuring the actual thruster location as it gives more control over what thrusters you want firing and when while also giving "cleaner" outputs
it's basically just a geonodes sim setup measuring the acceleration vector/strength of sample points defined by empties, then taking the dot product of the acceleration vector and the "thrust" vector of the empties, then using those values to drive the actual plume objects
ive got an idea of how to create an actual expanding puff system that isn't ludicrously taxing on render time, curious to see if i can pull it off the way i'm imagining (if i get around to it)
now on something with a bit more heft

yes! geonodes stuff with simulation nodes
the latter; just taking the dot product of the acceleration vector and the "thrust" vector (from a sample position and not the actual thruster position to help mitigate errors) for each individual thruster, makes it really straightforward to animate
